Every single job we were working on either got damaged or delayed by the storm. This means that for November, December and January our income has been reduced to almost nothing. Our creditors have been working with us (thank God) but we have had our health insurance lapse. We had enough savings to get us through the 1st 2 months but after that we have been treading water.
I just got a letter last week that our home owners insurance carrier, Tower Hill, is not going to renew our policy and is no longer going to write coverage in Florida!! Our end date is May 1 and my agent is scrambling to secure new coverage. She said that she should be able to write us with no problem since we are rated code plus superior construction.
Our jobs are now restarting but the delays really hurt us financially.
It's amazing how these storms can upset your life...I pray for the people in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Amazing, indeed!!! Since Katrina, I have been working virtually non-stop on this house and spending more $$ than I ever thought imaginable. My son had to relocate to TN, one daughter had to relocate to Largo, FL, and my wife is now in Madeira Beach, FL (lucky her!!) managing a condo complex until I can join her whenever (OR IF!!) I ever get done with this house. Then, I'll rent it out and head for paradise... I seriously need a break - as in days and days of fishing and laying on the beach...
I know exactly what you're talking about... Every single lifestyle event that you can think of has been interrupted and/or changed in some manner. Here in Biloxi, the recovery is as much underway as it was on August 30 - and we're approaching day 160!!
Hopefully, that light at the end of the tunnel continues to get bigger and brighter. Thanks for the prayers...
