1980's California Drought

Anyone remember this? Remember those public service announcements that ran saying "please save water"? I was around 5 at the time.
Anyone have a little more information on the drought that plagued the 80's in California? I need this for a special project I'm conducting in college.

My questions are; Where can I find more information on this event? How long did it last? *est(1987-
What was the economic impact? What states besides California were involved in the drought? How did this drought affect other parts on the US?

The period of the mid 1980's into the mid 1990's was a fairly wet one for AZ.
