Dr. Phillip K. (he works with Dr. Gray), has just announced to the public that the northern gulf coast, from the western stateline of Florida through Louisiana, has a 30% chance of a landfalling Cat 3 hurricane or higher this season....this is compared to a 100 year average of 16%.

LOL....and a little while after that comment, he explained how La Nina would affect the season. He mentioned how the cooler waters in the Pacific allows less wind shear in the Atlantic Basin, and how storms this year would probably have the opportunity to make it all the way across the Atlantic and into the Carribean and/or Gulf. He was just FULL of good news!

Perhaps what he said provides some insight as to their expected landfall forecast they give us in their May update. Very interesting.

Well, 30% probability of a hit, and 70% probability of a no-hit, is a lot better than what we saw in 2005 with three direct hits, 2 majors... I'm gonna be pullin' real hard that the 70% wins out....

He passed away last September after a tough fight with prostate cancer.

Yeah, DT passed away shortly after Katrina. I remember listening to WWL in the car while exiled in baton rouge, and hearing them talk about it. I think Garland Robinette came on board originally as a fill-in for Tyree when it became clear DT wouldn't be back soon, if at all. Now Garland is my main man on wwl. Funny how things worked out.

about the show this morning, I missed it, but I didn't need anymore bad news today! I'm in a state of perpetual low-grade anxiety over what to do this season if/when another cat 3 or higher heads this way....
