Authorities said the accident occurred south of Dunn near mile marker 73. One of the drivers who was pinned in the wreckage of a tour bus is being airlifted from the scene.
One of the tour buses is from the Brooks Transportation Company. Three tow trucks are on the scene of the accident.
Authorities said 15 to 20 people are being taken to Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.
Officials with Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn said they are expecting to treat 20 to 30 teenagers. Hospital officials said the teenagers are from New Jersey.
One lane of northbound Interstate 95 is open to traffic. Southbound traffic is slowly moving due to onlooker delays. Motorists are advised to use U.S. 301 as an alternate route until crews can re-open the roadway. Officials are confident that all lanes will be open by 3 p.m.
