What's in YOUR Garden?

Flowers or veggies....what 'ya got?

Our veggie garden is onions, tomatoes (18 plants, to be exact!);
okra, various peppers, eggplant, squash, and cucumbers.

We plant zinnias on the outer rows for the birds, butterflies, and
fresh all-summer bouquets!

I've got various flowers in other parts of the yard - I'm not even
going into that!

What are you growing?

All flowers - perennials and annuals. Catmint, shasta daisies, hostas, coral bells, lamium, black-eyed susans, foxglove, salvia, periwinkle, roses, impatiens, astible, begonias, marigolds, geraniums, vinca vines and spiderwort. I need to make another flower bed. It's alittle late in the season now for that, but there are so many other plants I want to try!

Oh my gosh....where DO I start Breeze!

School's out now so I have time to work in the gardens....but I have a dozen of flats still waiting on the deck to be put into the ground! I had to Round-up a portion of one garden a few weeks ago because of a 2 year neglect....but I've started planting again. I saved several perennials to replant. My soil is the most awful hard clay. Ten bags of cow manure.....and 2 huge bags of peat/perlite took me two days to till in with my little Honda tiller (love that thing!)

Lots of rain is forcast for this week so I'm getting as much planted as I can. Here's some pics of my gardens.....hope you enjoy!.....p :wink:

we have a container garden only. I have basic, plum tomatoes, grape tomatoes, a bell pepper, habaneros, hatch chile, jalapeno, rosemary, chives, and spring onions. that's it.

Great pictures petal!

I don't have a tiller, but a tool that I do like is "The Claw". It breaks up the soil really well and I've used it to start new flower beds where I had a lawn originally. It's better than a shovel. Plus I use it in my make-shift compost bin - an old Rubbermaid trash can - to help chop up the weeds, etc. I dump into it.

Just tomatoes this year. Got 9 regular size, and 6 cherry tomatoe plants. We love maters!

Also some basil, thinking about still putting in some okra, and hot peppers, they like the heat anyhow so they should do good this late. Most of the other stuff in our yard is tropicals, we do have a plumeria that is about to bloom, and about 25 orchids. Just acquired 20 of those this weekend, my hubby got 20 vanda orchids for 40 bucks at a yard sale. :eek:

Repotted some and gave them some TLC, should have some great flowers soon!

Wow petal pusher, nice photos what a peaceful area you have to go and relax and work in. How wonderful.

One lonely tomato plant on our 1 by 2 balcony :cry:

If I had more room, I would have a ton of plants!

Lots of good growing going on out there! Angelwing, that one tomato plant
will give you some yummy tomatoes for a while, and, you can pass on the
grocery store-bought ones - enjoy!

Steph, those are lovely flower varieties that you've got. I hope that you get to
try more. There's more that I want to try, and, I'm scratching my head on
where I'll put them on 3/4 acre! :cheesy:

Oh, Petal, I remember when you got that tiller - and, look at what you've done!
Your gardens are awesome! Thanks for sharing that link with us!

Alicia, container gardens are great - it even makes it easier with weeding
and such - if you're not feeding an army, and, just one family, you'll get
a lot of joy from it!

OTown, those tomatoes are wonderful, eh? They're the highlight of our garden.
They're always good on a sandwich, for sauce - nothing like the fresh ones!

Breeze - I do have some ideas of garden "islands" I'd like to put in front of my house where there currently is lawn but Marty is like "it's too difficult to mow around those things..." :roll:

I keep trying to tell him that it's less to mow but he won't have it.

I'll think of something. I do have an empty spot along my fence in the backyard that is more shade than sun. It's alittle late to start anything new now with the heat, but there's always that possibility. :wink:

Stephanie, I have curved beds in the front of my house but I've been thinking of an island too!!!!! Maybe we could just make the whole yard a garden and we wouldn't have to mow at all!!!

I've got an "island" in my front yard with 3 peppermint crepe myrtles, lantana, society garlic and gerber daisies. My husband never complained about mowing around it.

I have chilves ( Doing pretty good, Rosemary I love the smell they are doing o.k. too and parsley which is alive and well but not getting bigger for some reason, but then there are the tomatoes they are growing nice and tall with little yellow flowers as well alot of them, but i notice that some of the bottom leaves/stalks have a yellow color with black spots so i remove those dont know exactly what it is, and how long after the flowers appear do tomatoes come??? Oh and we also have basil a classic that i love!
Now our regular garden is under construction!
