Yeah, it works! You can get a roll of Mentos for less than two bucks, and the cheap'o store brand sodas work fine. The trick is to rig you a tube to drop the candies quickly. use a slip of cardboard or plastic on the bottom - and never do this indoors! I have used the "white" Mentos and also the "Mixed Fruit" ones.

Curious: I can't believe that this is a chemical reaction - wouldn't eating a few Mentos and drinking a soda have you spewing up? Also, if you check the candies right after the trick, they look about the same. I'm betting it's something to do with the small objects displacing liquid and causing all of the bubbles to rush into the void or vacuum created (?).
