Could all this disturbance in this area mean another huge one could happen. What is going on with this area?

This area sits on the ring of fire and is very prone to eq's, and they just had another aftershock of 5.1 (if I can find the link again I'll post it). I feel so bad for these people, it's such a shame

Wow again! you'd think that being out to sea it would be safer, but i dont think it is by the look of this! if it hit the land it would be alot worse im guessing, they just need better tsunami warnings to get people away from the coastal areas!

I hope these aren't signs of a huge eruption to come under the earth in that area!

Tsunami after earthquake kills at least 80 in Indonesia
Last Updated Mon, 17 Jul 2006 13:10:46 EDT
CBC News
A strong earthquake spawned a two-metre tsunami that struck a beach resort area in Indonesia on Monday, killing at least 80 people, according to a Red Cross official.

"Our latest data show 80 people have died while at least 68 are badly injured. The number can climb because many may have been swept away by the waves," said Fitri Sidikah, an official at the Indonesian Red Cross disaster centre.

Witnesses said the tsunami damaged hotels and threw boats into houses when it hit Pangandaran Beach in West Java province, on the southern coast of Indonesia's Java Island. Local people ran for a nearby hill to escape the wave.

The earthquake measured 7.2 on the Richter scale. It hit deep beneath the Indian Ocean, with its epicentre believed to be about 240 kilometres southwest of Java's western coast.

An aftershock, with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale, rattled the area about two hours after the quake.

Indonesian Transport Minister Hatta Radjasa told Radio Elshinta, a radio station based in the capital Jakarta, that people living on Java's southern coast should head to higher ground in an orderly way.

"Everyone should move from the beach," Radjasa said.

Indonesia has not fully recovered from a tsunami on Boxing Day in 2004 that killed more than 200,000 people.
