Text messenger...j/k Actually am now a Skywarn Spotter!!! Go me!!! I also job-shadowed almost an entire shift today (Evening shift, 3-11 P.M., I was there from around 4:30 to 11 P.M.) at my local NWS here in Newport!!! I feel special... If you are seriously thinking about a job with the NWS, you need to visit your local office and maybe do some job-shadowing...you can contact someone there to set-up a time...

Congratulations! Being a SKYWARN spotter is a great way to give back to your community. There's a lot of responsibility that goes with it, but it also can be very rewarding. That's just SUPER news!

I have been a SKYWARN spotter for nearly 40 years, and with today's cell phone technology, it is even easier to share your real-time weather info with NWS.

Enjoy it!

yes...thank you guys...azskyman, I know what your talking about and also my local office, when they issue warnings put their toll free 1-800 phone # for the general public to call, one of the guys there says they always get a call from someone claiming they saw a tornado even when there was no way he could of... but it does help getting the public to actually report stuff instead of thinking, na, someone else has probably reported it...

I've been a Spotter since I was 12. I never really have anything to report.

You're lucky . . . it seems Sterling will only publicly offer them in the spring, always during the day (i.e. during school) so I can't ever make it to one. I try e-mailing any reports I have, but they've only payed attention to my snowfall reports. So have fun calling the stuff in, and congrats!

I've reported the few snowfall events into the NWS Memphis and they posted them.

A few severe weather reports as well. And some flooding.

Being a spotter is awesome. A good way to give back to your community. I am one of very few in my county so I have to do my part whenever I can.

Just look on ur NWS page for the Skywarn newsletter or schedule. Attend the meeting in your county. Thats basically it. You do have to go back every 4 years to get re- certified. You can become an advanced Skywarn spotter which requires more training. I haven't done this yet.

there we go...you guys sparked an idea, I went to the MHX Skywarn website, copied their Skywarn photo...and then edited it to add MHX Certified to it...so how does it look? not bad for a person, when he started editing the photo, who had no clue what he was doing...huh?
