Garbage and Trash

#1 Postby Janice » Sat Jul 29, 2006 5:06 am

Does it seem that you are always taking your trash out?

I think I take out a big bag of trash every day. Where does all this come from? I think I have more trash now then when I had kids.

I guess I need a trash compactor and save on bags.

Our family has both a city-issued trash curbside cart and a recycle bin that we use.

Raleigh trash trucks now have an automatic robot-like "arm" device that grabs the cart and empties it out...pretty cool! :)

LOL!! Janice, Michelle and I were talking about this JUST yesterday, the EXACT conversation....when my son was living with us and my daughter came to visit, seems we only took the trash out every 2 days, but now it's just Michelle and I, I swear, it's EVERY single DAY.

Don't get me started on trash. Or true trash as I'd like to say!

What my state needs is a recycling program like Wisconsin has. We rented a condo for a weeklong vacation there, a few years ago. I should point out that I heavily recycle. I rinse every plastic bottle and can out, recycle all newspapers, food boxes, junk mail, etc. When we go on trips, I have to suspend my recycling efforts. Not in Wisconsin! Even in public places, they had several recepticles - trash/glass/paper/plastic. I was so impressed! One of my daughters ordered a root beer in a glass bottle for lunch. We were browsing in shops after eating while she finished this drink. We didn't know where to recycle it (I don't even think they use the word pitch up there) and a clerk said, oh here, let me take it please. Behind her counter was an old fashioned glass soda case, for glass bottles, all shapes, brands, etc. Again, I was so impressed!

I wish recycling was as wide spread as it is up there. Once you start, it's very hard to stop. I hardly ever just put something directly in the garbage can. Lined up on my counter right now are probably rinsed out cans, bottles and the like, waiting for the recycle bin.

Trash compactors are nice for trash though. That would save on garbage dumps. Our local Cincinnati one is a mountain by now. It's dubbed Mt. Rumpke (co. name). They've bought property over the decades b/c people rarely recycle so there's more acreage for garbage.
