I need help
Can someone help me with an idea for science that has to do with the weather? I know, random...but honors science sucks in 8th grade...

You don't actually need to use the real amount of wind. You can bring down the wind speed to fit the scale of the structure you build. It will probably take a lot of research and math, but it could work.cheezyWXguy wrote:Extremeweatherguy wrote:is there a way you go demonstrate the forces of different wind speeds on a model structure of a building or something? That would be an interesting experiment.
I like your idea....but do u know how i could get that kind of strength of wind?
Anyone else have an idea on how he could do this?

When I was in the 7th grade, I did an experiment to test the various effects of acid rain. I used bean plants and fixed mixtures of water and vinegar. Of course, you have to figure out the various elements of the control and experiemntal groups. It was a fun and effective experiment, however.

re: strength of wind.
I'd tell you to find a politician and ask for a straight answer, but the instrument would have to be poop-proof too. Sorry. Couldn't resist. Seriously though, what about a demonstration showing the difference between storm surge in shallow vs. deep water (ie- landfall in the gulf coast states vs. US east coast)? ...or... If you could figure out a way to simulate surface wind rotation, you could show how storm surge occurs on one side of a storm (you know which side), but has the opposite effect on the other side.

hmmm...Well...go to your local library and see if they have a copy of "Mr. Wizard's Experiments For Young Scientists" written by Don Herbert...while the book I have was originally in a elementary school, they do have a pretty good looking experiment on weather. Someone already mentioned go and predict the weather, but if you read the section it tells you how to make a homemade barometer and then you can try to forecast with it. No it is not the one you make out of a balloon, glass jar, and straw (although that was fun when I was younger ^^
) this one is made out of a sink plunger, some wood, and a piece of a mirror...it actually looks pretty interesting and fun...I'm going into the 11th grade, and just for fun until school starts, may make it myself...

Make a homemade barometer. It's easy and really does work as a
