Wave Approaching Windward Islands

#1 Postby rockyman » Mon Aug 21, 2006 6:55 am

The area between the Islands and Africa is really heating up...I haven't seen a separate thread for this wave, so here it is :)

From 805A TWD:
TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 52W/53W S OF 19N MOVING W NEAR 15-20 KT.
WELL DEFINED INVERTED-V CURVATURE IS OBSERVED ON INFRARED
SATELLITE IMAGERY. SCATTERED MODERATE/STRONG CONVECTION IS FROM
8N-14N BETWEEN 34W-39W.

I think that 8am TWD is in error this morning. The portion that says:
"SCATTERED MODERATE/STRONG CONVECTION IS FROM 8N-14N BETWEEN 34W-39W" actually belongs to the wave at 35-36W.

Here's the full text on these 2 waves:
...TROPICAL WAVES...
TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 35W/36W S OF 17N MOVING W 10-15 KT. BROAD MID LEVEL ROTATION IS OBSERVED ON INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY ALONG THE ITCZ. CONVECTION IS CONFINED TO WITHIN THE ITCZ AREA.

TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 52W/53W S OF 19N MOVING W NEAR 15-20 KT. WELL DEFINED INVERTED-V CURVATURE IS OBSERVED ON INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY. SCATTERED MODERATE/STRONG CONVECTION IS FROM 8N-14N BETWEEN 34W-39W.

Looking at Central Atl satellite loop, the western wave has some convection, but it is confined to a drawn "bulge" in ITZ,

The more eastern wave does show scattered moderate/strong convection 8-14N 34-39W.
