While this statement is somewhat prone to hyperbole ..but only a little...i just want to say..Stewart is a genius. Reading his discussions one can imagine watching Monet paint, Shakespeare write, Montana on a game winning drive....you get the drift here...anyway back to the storms now

Stewart's discussions certainly are colorful and long.. but is he the best forecaster? I mean, has anyone every verified the forecasts from the whole bunch? I'd be interested in the numbers and I haven't seen a thread like that ever.

I think that's a great point that you bring up. How the forecast verified is more important than how long the discussion is.

Personally I don't care if his forecasts are verified.
I am NOT an expert on the workings of the NHC so any one who is or a Pro Met is welcome to correct me but I perceive that the forecasts and discussions are a collaborative exercise and not one forecaster's opinion.
Kind of like the Supreme Court where a decision is made and one or more of the Justices writes the opinion.
Point is that Stewart gives us what looks like a view into the mind of the foreacasters not just a few terse words.
That's why it is called the "Discussion" which I think some of his colleagues sometimes forget. Tell us WHY the forecast is going a certain way and what else is looked at as possibly changing the current forecast. Tell us the thinking BEHIND the forecast and not just a regergitation (sp) of the Forecast.
I agree that Stewart does this very, very well.

I think they all do it very well.
Franklin is my favorite writer. He occasionally gets a little punchy and writes some funny stuff. I actually e-mailed the NHC once and complimented him. There is another thread around ( I can't find it?) that has copies of funny stuff in the discussions. The majority are from Franklin.
