I noticed in Baltimore last weekend that BK there is offering full health benefits and a weeks vacation every 6 months for entry level crew members. The starting pay is well above minimum wage as well although I cannot remember the exact amount.

It all depends on location and how rich the franchises are. I know when I worked at Wendys, we didnt get crap for benefits and pay but some places in Pittsburgh get more "goodies".

I worked for McD's about 25 years ago. Got decent benefits (was a full time employee) incuding vacation. They began cutting our benefits and freezing pay raises and a lot of us, including me, left.

Yes that is true. The stipulation is that you have to stay employed there for a disclosed amount time to recieve the bonus. After that your pay drops dramatically. It is probably real bad in New Orleans and was like that here.

All of the fast food restaurants are offering up to $10 per hour here. They need the workers that bad. Something, ain't it? But the food is costing us more than it did before the storm as well.

Question to sunny: Do you eat at the BK's over there? They are complaining about a BK resterant and many more fast food joints here in my neck of the woods. They post them on message boards such as nola.com, etc

Only in a pinch LaPlace. Do I think the quality of the food WORSE than Pre-K? Definitely. I am finding that restaurant-wise completely though, not just fast food. And it costs more. I am cooking much more than I use to, lol.

Cindy I ate at the McDs on Canal Street back in May and it was HORRIBLE to say the least. The food was bad and the place was filthy. And the prices were outrageous but then again thats the French Quarter.

To me it seems the quality of the employees at these resterants are poor. I have seen many of these places close the dining area and just do drive thru and many just close for the day cause of lack of help.

I worked for McD's 25 years ago and at the time the store I worked in was the cleanest and one of the busiest in the area. Now its a dump. Service is slow as heck and the overall attitude of the crew stinks. If these people are getting paid minimum wage thats still too much for them.

here in Toronto, the minimum wage is $ 8 CDN an hour, and thats what you get paid for any fast food place that you work at when you start, be it Burger King, or Mickey Dee or Wendys.
For the kids, a chance to earn some extra money which they otherwise won't have. For the companies and franchises, cheap labour and efficient operations. For anyone else who works there, even if working full time , it will be very hard to make ends meet with just a single job, even assuming working a minimum of 40 hours per week.

so at $ 10 USD and a sign up bonus of $2000 USD, its not such a bad deal at all.
