Ya know, other than the quick trip a few months back to come down to pick up new Dodge Durangos for the PD and bringing down my "ex" truck, I haven't spent time down here in over 15 years and NOW I know why....there's no other way to say it other than it TRULY SUX  Sorry Azskyman 8-)

The traffic is StUPID....it takes 45 minutes to go 8 MILES, the people are DOWNRIGHT RUDE!! I don't mind cities, I LOVE Tucson, Albuequrque, Santa Fe but PHOENIX????? They can KEEP it

That's how it is in all big cities. I can't stand traffic myself. I travel 49 miles one way to go to work and it takes almost an hour. If I went to work in an area with alot of traffic it would probably take me about the same amount of time to go half of the distance.

Stephanie! You travel more than me and you're only traveling in one state! Ack!

I know what you mean though, when I was working at the VA in Philly a 23 mile ride took 45 minutes on I-95 because of the traffice, yet now it takes 45 minutes to an hour to go 45 miles for me going from PA to NJ, providing I don't get stuck behind school buses!

Dave's last commute involved a straight shot of about 7 miles. Took him an hour or more to get to work.

It's awful. They need to do more with public transportation in NJ. The PATCO High Speed line is great, if you can get to it...I live in Gloucester County which I refer to as the "wrong side of Rt. 42". If I was in Camden County I could hop on the train, no problem. They need to get a connection down my way, kind of the like the new River Line in Burlington County that connects Trenton to Camden County.

At least I'm going the "other way" - away from all of that traffic, so I don't mind the mileage.

That's why PHX is often referred to as Los Angeles, AZ because it has all of the drawbacks of that city with few redeeming features. Vegas isn't much better. BTW I have never spent time in PHX other than to be on my way through to another place since I moved to AZ in 1986. Had to drive through that place on my way down from UT and that was enough to convince me that I wanted nothing to do with that place.

Dennis...much of what you say is so true, BUT, I just came back from a cccooolllddd few days in Chicago where the sun didn't shine, the city traffic was bad, the trip to Midway Airport is getting nastier, and frankly, we couldn't wait to get back home.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Indeed we pay the price for convenience and sunshine here.

But hey, wasn't today excellent weatherwise???

Wow. Good thing I'm going to PHX in March. Sounds awesome. I loved LA though.

Steve, your neck of the Valley is NICE 8-) It's the DOWNTOWN area of Phoenix up to where I was staying at, I-17 and Northern Ave. was DIRTY, NASTY and downright YUCKY

What REALLY got to me though was the AMOUNT of homeless ALL up and down 7th. Ave to downtown  part of my training was at Phoenix Police Dept Headqtrs. on 7th Ave and Washington, the other half was at 7th Ave. and Jefferson at the Maricopa County Forensic Science Center (basiclly the County Coreners office). We had to park at the FSC on Jefferson and walk to the PPD Crime Lab and even ARMED with my sidearm I STILL KNEW I was gonna be jumped by ALL the homeless down there!
