There have been such scholarships for a while.
One that I actually liked was a scholarship given specifically to white students, however it had a catch. You had to write about racial equality and show that you intended to devote your career to some field that would promote racial equality, or otherwise work for the greater good in terms of race.
Some people sort of dismissed it, but I saw what they were really getting at and thought it was brilliant.

(As Weird Al) "They see me mowin'...my front lawn
I know that they all think I am White and Nerdy
Think I'm just too White and Nerdy
Think I'm just too White and Nerdy
Don't ya see, I'm White and Nerdy
Look at me, I'm White and Nerdy..."

To be fair, I'm not aware of there ever having been money that could have gone to whites going specifically to blacks.
Federal financial assistance does not discriminate based on race, so there's no issue there.
As for private scholarships, it is money given specifically to help minority students. If it doesn't go to minorities, it doesn't go anywhere, so it's not like the minorities are taking scholarships away. A huge number of scholarships are given only to students from a specific city or county. That's no less discriminatory.
Regardless, the whole issue is silly to get worked up about. Only a very small percentage of scholarships list race as a requirement.

That is what I have wondered for a long time. Some would tell you it is because we need to make up for wrongs in the past. Sorry, that doesn't wash with me.
I think we're past that point of needing them as well. Scholarships should be given out based on scores and need, period, no matter what the race is.

Well that's up for debate, but we're talking about student aid here. A "free application for federal student aid" doesn't even ask about your race. Federal student aid is handed out based on financial need and nothing else.
Most private scholarships discriminate based on geography, and can really discriminate based on anything.
