Prichard, Alabama... not a very well liked town on the outskirts of Mobile, Alabama. There is a neighborhood called Alabama Village. It is known for crime and where you can find your cars that have been stolen, totally stripped or in the sand pit burned to a crisp. The Mayor of Prichard is finally cleaning up. The company I work for has already removed 43 cars. We were met with guns, knives and everything else. Prichard Police had to accompany tow trucks to remove the cars.
Prichard Police were called out there one night and when they arrived to Alabama Village they were ambushed by gunfire, killing several officers and wounding several officers. Come to find out it was a setup.
I do believe the reason the Mayor is cleaning up is because he thinks the new Sports Complex owned by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is coming to set up shop. And yes, Prichard is in the running to get the racetrack. If he does not clean it up, they will not put the track there.
Anyway, read the link below. I have no sympathy for these folks in Alabama Village.

I am pretty familiar with this area and it is one place you wouldnt want to get stuck in. Good job and good luck to the Mayor for trying to clean the area up but I believe his efforts will prove futile. Its gonna take a whole lot more resources than the city has to get Pritchard up to a respectable standard

I will never forget the day my sister in law broke down near the interstate exit about five minutes from home in Birmingham. She got a ride to the gas station off the ramp to call for a tow truck and walked back to wait with her car. She was gone a max of ten minutes. When she got back the car was gone never to be heard from again.

Prichard has been a slum since I first moved down to Goula in 79. I made the horrible mistake of driving through Prichard one day while shopping in Mobile. Didn't get robbed or mugged but realized real quick how bad the area was and got out ASAP. Have not returned to Prichard since then.......MGC
