How does the scoring work now? What are the total points? And what does a 7 mean? Have you checked the schools you are interested in to see what requirements they might have for SAT scores? Taking it again can never hurt, everyone I know of raised their score the second time.

If that is on the 1600 score system, that isn't bad at all. That kind of score got me into any college I wanted to go to. Not gonna tell you how long ago that was, but you weren't born!!!

Looks like the 1020 is the sum of the reading and math sections (which were the only parts the test had back when I took it). Guess they keep the writing and essay parts distinct to allow meaningful comparison with scores old folks like me got.

fact789: Definitely take it again. You have a good chance of improving your score since now you have the experience of taking the test once.

The score is the sum of reading and math sections. The colleges will look at the separate essay part, but not really count it this year. It is still too new to use.

http://www.princetonreview.com/college/ ... nkings.asp

Go to the above link and look up the colleges you are interested in attending. They list their mid-range scores.

And...definately take it again. Most colleges will use the best score from either section to give you the best possible total.

My daughter improved her score by 75 points ( and used the Study Guide to prepare the 2nd time.)

Also .. take the ACT. Most colleges will accept either test and some people do better on the ACT than the SAT.
