Professions where drinking is related

#1 Postby azsnowman » Thu Dec 21, 2006 8:38 pm

How many here know someone in a profession that seems to be tied with heavy drinking?

I can't TELL you HOW many professional PAINTERS that "tip the cup" a LOT...my neighbor for instance, he's an INCREDIABLE house painter...he's SO busy but MAN this dude drinks like a FISH!!

Law enforcement...yeah, we tend to drink a *little*, not MUCH

I knew a painter who was so addicted to alcohol that his hands would shake badly.. until he made his brush stroke. The man would go through a case on the way to the jobsite.

Helllooooo!! How about anyone who is in Sales?! Dave likes a drink like anyone else, and being in Sales it's almost a requirement. Over the years he's learned to seriously pace himself.

Politicians?

Hehe jk

I have never thought about that. I guess who do I associate w/ drinking alot in college/high school. The "cool" frat rich people. Maybe ceo's and since being a mom is an occupation I'll go with those really rich mom's w/ nannies who are addicted to pain killers and gin.

OH YEH! And who couldn't forget PILOTS! They are famous for being drunk on the job. And Ship Captains lol!

Sales. I drink more on sales trips than at any other time in my life. It's almost impossible to close a big deal without drinks.

I once went on a job interview for a major beverage distributor. They had beer taps in the wall of the conference room, and the guy doing the interview poured himself a glass then offered me one.

Guess I should have taken him up on the offer. Didn't get the job.

Looking at the responses, the title of this thread needs to read "Professions where drinking is NOT related"!

Medical profession. Not only heavy drinking, but, add substance abuse. I once
worked with an ER doc who, when I called him, responded with slurred speech
and played a little ditty from his grand piano, with every order. I've worked
with too many nurses who were robbing the medicine cart at the nursing home,
and, pharmacists at hospitals who were illegally (and carelessly) signing OUR
names to narcotic meds that we (the nurses) didn't sign out for. A lot of
Holiday parties with heavy drinking. Of course, as long as I had a designated
driver ( like Hedrick, my chauffer), I could take the holiday parties....
