What do you think of RED (aids medicine help)

#1 Postby HollynLA » Sat Jan 06, 2007 4:07 pm

I watched the Oprah show where Bono appeared and told about the RED program, where many clothing stores are selling merchandise that half the profits (or more?) goes towards paying for medical care and medicines for those in Africa suffering from AIDS. As I thought about it, it really sounds great, right? We prolong the life of those who are suffering with this disease. We all know how horrible AIDS is in Africa, but why? This RED program will not stop the spread of AIDS in Africa, it will only help medicate those who are suffering from it. It seems like a non stop battle, if AIDS is still spreading there like wildfire, then when can we say that this has been successful? Do you really think that this will do any good? I'd love to hear your opinions.

I think anything that will help the quality of life for someone suffering from anything is worth it. But I totally agree that not only does something need to be done for those that already have it, but to stop it from spreading or the amount of people needing this medical care will increase as it continues to spread.

So much could be done to fight AIDS in Africa and around the world, but the honest truth is, is that we are not willing to give up certain valuables to help those. We all talk to our friends about global issues and why no body is doing anything, or we do very little and call it a job well done, but in the end we don't really care because either it isn't us, or we have made ourselves so sure that it'll never happen to us.

It's not up to our governments and non-profit organizations to help those who need help, it's up to as a race to help eachother out by actually getting the job done.

We are doing good towards the fight of AIDS in Africa, but it's not enough.

Our governments are actually sending expensive name brand medicines to Africa, that the people cannot afford, while there are dozens of no-name brands owned by grocery stores and pharmacies that are much less expensive and affordable not being allowed because of profit issues. (economics)

AIDS, herpes, and all sexually-transmitted and /or contagious diseases and/or ailments CAN be completely eliminated! It's as simple as "Don't pass it on."

Unfortunately, these days some people use AIDS as a form of revenge. :grr:

No one can help anyone else out of a bad situation unless that "anyone else" is willing to help himself. I don;t see Africa as doing anything to help itself. Mind you -- just my opinions. :P
