I think it was the winter of 1981 when we had sub zero temps or near zero temps. It was that year or the winter of 1982. I was going to college then and I didn't care what I looked like walking to and from classes - I was bundled up and ready.

I remember sitting at a light on my way to school and one of my hoses burst. Fortunately, there was a gas station right across the street so they could fix it but it was a cold, COLD day!

The coldest I have EVER seen was about -1 to -3 degrees on top of a mountain pass just outside of Lake Tahoe.

I have also experienced near zero temperatures in Raleigh, NC a few days after the big blizzard of 2000. That was a very close second for me.

-32F 1996 was official at the Minneapolis, MN airport but I lived in the NW Suburbs and it was colder no doubt.. Been in a few -40-60F windchills according to the old calculations in MN and SD. I use to consider a 2 week period below zero for highs normal in MN. Yeah the ice gets thick up there.. Hence now I am in Florida.. 8-)

Logan, Utah got to a low of -30 degrees on December 23, 1990, but I was less than a year old at the time (and I was just visiting relatives), so I personally don't count it. It's possible I experienced some very cold temperatures in Kalispell, Montana between November 1994 and January 1995, when I lived there, but I can't confirm anything really cold. Looking at the weather records for Missoula, I can assume that we saw some pretty frigid subzero temperatures in early January 1995, but again, I can't know for sure how cold they were. Therefore the coldest I will say is when it dropped to -12 degrees here in Salt Lake City on February 3, 1996, but this is an imprecise estimate.

- 19 degrees ... Cleveland, Ohio in January 1977.

I was a paperboy for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and I'll never forget delivering papers that morning, thanks to my Dad who got up and drove me around because it was so incredibly cold!!
