The Housing Market

#1 Postby Janice » Thu May 03, 2007 3:06 pm

The housing market is horrible here for sellers. It is a buyers market. I don't know how it is in the states. We may have to sit on this house to get a decent price.

How is real estate going in your area?

It is definitely a buyer's market in south Florida. Locally, prices have been remarkably steady for several months. Our landlord undoubtedly would not sell our property under these conditions. Despite a consistent influx of new developments, the pace of new construction is lower than pre-2006 levels. I do not see any collapse in the market. Large-scale media focuses on the negative aspects, but in reality the overall market is fine.

Locally, development is more robust. The construction in portions of southwest and central Florida (and the Miami area) is still continuing at a quick pace.

we sold ours in one day back in January in Northern Florida; full price cash offer. We found what we wanted here in NM for exactly what we offered. No dickering at all. I do know that's not the norm. The house next to ours in Florida was for sale over a year. they dropped the price $100K and still couldnt sell it... The value of our home here in NM has already increased $15k. again, we just got lucky, certainly not the norm.
