Spam

#1 Postby southerngale » Sun May 06, 2007 1:58 am

We're constantly deleting spam and banning the spammers from the board. Some of it is offensive and we remove it from the board as soon as it's discovered. Other times, it's just someone advertising something. As always, please let us know if you see any spam on the board, in case we miss it. We generally catch it when we get on the board, though, but we appreciate the heads up from our members.

Also, we've received some complaints of members being spammed via PM. If you are spammed via PM, please let a staff member know. If you could copy and paste the PM, that would be best, then just PM it to a moderator or admin and we'll take care of it.

I've been in the habit of alerting a Mod who is online at the moment I see a spammer. I've done this so many times, the PM subject line - troll alert? - comes up as soon as I type - t - . Which makes it rapid and easy to alert them. I just simply include the URL for that spam topic. That's all that is needed.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks for all you do, Admin/Mods.

I just hope members do not click on any of the links. Sometimes it's blatant and obvious stuff (I hit that PM feature so fast!), but usually it's a string of links for medications. A major-major tip off, IMHO.

The member Dustin on this board is a big pm spammer if you already didn't know. I've got two messages from him over the past two months asking to join his weather board!! Annoying! :grr:

His username is "dustin"
Annoying when you get these messages. S2K grew normal but that joe thinks he can spam whoever and do whatever.

So it's okay to send messages to another member randomly about your message board? I swore that would be considered spamming, however, considering Fact you're a member of his board you'd naturally stand up for him.

I guess it wasn't him then, unless he changed his username.

that's a bit harsh. sending an email about another weather board is not spamming...

By definition, spam is:

To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities. Noun: electronic "junk mail".

Not an email a personal message. And it wouldn't be spamming if he only sent one, but sending them to random people isn't right.

Read this, it states it clearly: links to weather boards are not allowed.

Advertising/Links. Storm2k does not allow "out right" advertising of other sites without prior approval from the Admin staff. We do not allow links to other forums or anything that contains pornography of any sort. Personal websites are fine, but must be approved prior to posting. If your website has a message board it will not be allowed.

it does say that. if you're that unhappy about it, i'd address the concern to an administrator.

Yes it does qualify as spamming. If a Member sends several pm's to several members about joining another site over and over again.. It is spam. He was sending PM's to several members he does not know with a "commercial" if you will.. This qualifies as spam.

P.S. Thanks for contacting me aepp

Spam in "Hurricane Protection." Should be easy to spot.
