This is Just a reminder of our dislaimer policy.. If you post a forecast in this forum it MUST be preceded by the following..

The following post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. It is NOT endorsed by any professional institution or storm2k.org. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

If a forecast is made without using the disclaimer we will add it for you and send a reminder PM.. If it is "forgotten" repeatedly your posts will be removed, and your membership with storm2k may be removed as well.. This is for the safety of everyone. Please abide by it :-)

Tip: Just coply the code below and save it in a notepad on your desktop as this post itself will not remain as a sticky the whole season..

Code: Select all

Yeah, I got a reminder PM. The disclaimer has a bunch of typos in it, though, so I replaced my disclaimer with a fixed up version of this one (feel free to use it). :)

EDIT: 2005? Have we journeyed into the past again? ;)

Thanks, admin - this disclaimer is needed, since some in the media and in various financial markets have often used this site as a means to obtain "professional insider information" on where a hurricane might go - they seem not to understand that while some here do or have worked in that field, this is still a board for folks like myself who enjoy talking about the weather, nothing more...

Unfortunately, instead of obtaining a professional meteorologist's opinion for a fee, these folks seem to subscribe to the "why buy the milk if the cow's for free" thinking, and, this could ultimately lend to the rumor mill only because someone here innocently happened to post their own opinion on what a hurricane might or might not do.

It's a shame that those who enjoy talking about the weather can't even do that without others abusing the system - that's life in the 21st Century, I'm afraid...

Thanks again for including this disclaimer (even if it wasn't my idea) - let's hope it helps...

By the way, the disclaimer may need further rewording, because in its current form, it reads as though Storm2k were a professional institution (perhaps list Storm2k first).

Hello...

Question about the policy now that Storm2k has the disclaimer at the top of the forum... Is posting it in our "forecast" posts still nessecary?

Thanks,

SSW

And not all Information going into posts is unofficial like the advisories. I think you may need to tweak the orange box.

Good point. We'll tweak the orange box. The staff is playing with the new features as well :-)

Little request for when you guys tweak the orange box. I know it's not a major thing and this board is more US-based, but there are posts regarding non-NHC storms too, so maybe "NHC and NWS products" could be reworded? Maybe to "products from the relevant weather authorities" or something similar? Thanks.

...here's a suggestion:

...please refer to products of the NHC, NWS, or other Governmental meteorological services or agencies of the affected area or country for official statements or forecasts.

You're right, but, having worked for the Government, my brain still thinks (and writes) bureaucratically :)
