Has there ever been two storms hitting the U.S. coastline at the same time or within hours of eachother?

Wow, that's a good question...I wouldn't be surprised if it's happened before...keep in mind that the US has coastline all over the world...Hawaii, Guam (which counts cause you didn't say "hurricanes" , Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands...I'll have to check.

I believe Johnny's question is referring to two tropical storms and/or hurricanes making landfall along the U.S. coast line from Eastport, Maine to Brownsville, Texas at the same time or within hours of each other.

I didn't check more than about 30 years, but I did find a case in 1933 where Hurricane #11 was hitting Florida the same day that Hurricane #12 was hitting Brownsville:

wxman, that is very interesting. Another thing that is very odd is that they both formed almost in the exact same spot. Check out the maps below.

Thanks wxman57 - looks like 1933 was an awesome year for hurricane activity - don't think that kind of activity has been repeated since then.

How about 1923 when a hurricane made landfall on the Louisiana coast tracking due north in the predawn hours of October 16 then the next day!a tropical storm tracking due north made landfall on the Mississippi coast. That would be a satellite photo I'd like to see!
