Chaos in Denver (VIDEOS POSTED)

#1 Postby Category 5 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 4:11 pm

A thunderstorm moved in and chaos at the Rockies-Phillies Game

Winds I'd estimate at 40-50mph blew off the tarp and buried members of the grounds crew under it. The Phillies Players had to come out of the dugout to help control the tarp.

Wow!

here is one report of the game:-

DENVER —
Sun Jul 8 2007
Rockies groundskeeper Keros Johnson was trapped in the middle of an out-of-control tarp. When he finally crawled out, the wide-eyed Johnson was greeted by a sight he didn't expect -- Shane Victorino and Co. attempting to get the tarp under control.
Victorino helped wrangle with the tarp before a rain delay and then hit a two-run homer after the break in Philadelphia's 8-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

Most of the Phillies bench emptied onto the field during the seventh-inning delay, rescuing members of Colorado's grounds crew from underneath the whipping tarp. A strong burst of wind caught hold of it as the crew tried to roll it over the infield.

The grounds crew had no trouble with the tarp when they removed it following the 50-minute delay. It's the second straight rain delay, the one Saturday night lasting one hour and 22 minutes.

Head groundskeeper Mark Razum had never seen anything like the wind gust in 29 years.

"The wind was so strong, we couldn't hold it," Razum said. "When it draped over the guys, I was worried that somebody might suffocate. It was really cool the Phillies came out and gave us a hand."

They didn't give it a second thought.

The local Sportscaster here noted that none of the Rockies players came out to help even though it was their homefield.

Yeah. I saw it on ESPN. I think you can also access it on MLB.com and ESPN.com.
