Where is Wendy?

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Wed Aug 01, 2007 4:48 pm

The other day I was doing my internship in the NOAA/AOML building in Virginia Key, FL, and passing through the lobby of the building the hurricane preparation guides got my attention. There you could find from CBS 4, T51, and Channel 7.

All of them had a great presentation, as always, and the maps were really good, but there was a problem with Channel 7's Hurricane Name List, where did they put Wendy? It runs from Andrea to Van, but Wendy doesn't appear anywhere. I don't know if it was a printing error or they just forgot. Furthermore, when Phil Ferro, whose real name is Fidel Ferro, saw the final result I guess he must have noticed.

It doesn't really matter. There won't be a Wendy.

It matters because the list goes from A-W, excluding Q & U. In 2005 I believed there wasn't going to be any "W" and I got a close encounter with the "W". Still, I don't expect to see Wendy this year but excluding the name is still wrong.

Just a slight editing error. If it missed a name like Dean, it would be a bigger problem (though leaving out one on the middle of the list would probably be caught before it went to press).

You think that's bad, look at the Miami Herald's map. They have Bradenton south of Sarasota, Lake Charles, Corpus, & Savannah in the wrong places on the map, etc.

You'd think, being from FL, they'd at least get Sarasota/Bradenton correct...

I just noticed this at the bottom:

WOW. Nobody has bothered to fix it since 2002? Wow.

Being a major newspaper I'm surprised to find that, but not all that surprised. They should ask a Geographer or at least consult one before doing something like that.
