Severe Weather Over Central IL 10/18

#1 Postby pawlee » Sat Oct 20, 2007 6:12 am

hello everyone, what an incredible past few days it has been for all of us. per the title, thought I would drop by and share some of what we experienced in E Central IL, the birthplace of that which brought havoc to much of Indiana.

from the first warned cell in Macon county, not too severe but I thought it was pretty :)

same location but sneaking up from behind me, a second warned cell. this storm produced an approximate 9 mile path of consistent wind damage. they said no tornadoes set down however, in the second cropped picture you'll see there is a faint landspout. my thought is that it was a comma head vortex typical of an hp cell and often missed on radar. this storm continued on to overturn a semi a few miles up. I barely got out of harms way before getting blasted with wind and hail. unfortunately I am without cell phone presently so regrettably I couldn't call this one in as it was happening :(

I scored a ton of images as well as video from this day. you are welcome to check it out below. best wishes, p

According to the (SPC) Storm Reports on 10/18/07 there where Two... Here are the reports.

Bond County, IL - Unconfirmed report by County Sheriff

Fayette County, IL - Unconfirmed touchdown between 533-540pm before it became wrapped in rain.

Now both of these are still Unconfirmed and will have to see if the National Weather Service post anything else on these.

You guys are correct on the SPC report. What becomes contradictory is the official write up by our local office. Skip to the last paragraph. No one up there has responded to me yet (probably cause the weekend) so it will be interesting what they have to say about my images. I thought it was odd that they had this report up so quickly. Makes me wonder if anyone bothered surveying? I did a survey of my own based on the LSR as well as real time observations and i'm pretty convinced a weak to moderate EF0. The path is simply too long (approx. 10 miles) and consistently narrow to be straight line wind which tends to fan out. Honestly though, it's not a big deal. Just glad it wasn't worse.
