from the News: Hurricane Noel is wearing down many parts of south Florida beachfronts. All week Palm Beach County environmental employees have been fighting the sea, but they have to continue to re-asses the erosion caused by the rough surf and gusty winds. At one Singer Island condo residents are taking a short period of calm winds and season as an opportunity to do much needed repairs. Condo president Marie Bianchini and her neighbors have watched this go on most of the week, and off and on over the past month. The increased number of storms over the years has taken a toll on area residents. This week condo owners got another stark reminder of the vulnerability of the beaches and the buildings that are built on them. A sea wall protecting this complex collapsed, and about a dozen residents in one of its buildings were urged to leave. Crews brought in 6,000-pound recycled concrete blocks to serve as a temporary barrier from the crashing waves. But that's not making it easy for all residents. One high rise, still under construction, has little sand and part of its base exposed. The delay in the wave breaking boulder project, is getting permits. That's frustrated the homeowners here.
