A Night Of Starwatching

#1 Postby Ptarmigan » Fri Dec 21, 2007 1:42 am

First time I have taken out the telescope to starwatch. The dewpoint and humidity was low after a storm came by earlier in the morning. The sky was clear and seeing was good. However, the Moon was bright, almost like daytime, so it made starwatching harder. However, I manage to see a few objects through my 8 inch Newtonian telescope.

Moon-Really bright. So bright that I was blinded for a second.
Mars-Saw some details including the polar ice caps, especially at high power of 368x.
Pleiades-Spectacular as usual.
Orion Nebula-Never fails to amaze me. Very easy to see in spite of the bright Moon.
M34-Stumbled upon it and was easy to see despite the Moon.
Sirius-Like a diamond in the sky.

Not bad for someone who has not starwatched in months.
