THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF EAST CENTRAL
ARIZONA...NORTH CENTRAL ARIZONA...NORTHEAST ARIZONA AND WEST
CENTRAL ARIZONA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

A COLD FRONT PUSHING SOUTH OUT OF UTAH WILL BRING BREEZY NORTHEAST WINDS
AND COLDER AIR ACROSS NORTHERN ARIZONA TODAY.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

A SERIES OF STORMS DEVELOPING OVER THE PACIFIC OCEAN IS EXPECTED TO
BEGIN IMPACTING NORTHERN ARIZONA ON THURSDAY WITH RAIN AND HIGHER
ELEVATION SNOW. BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS ARE ALSO EXPECTED.
THE SNOW LEVELS WILL HOVER BETWEEN 7000 AND 8000 FEET THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING BEFORE MUCH COLDER AIR ARRIVES. THE SNOW LEVEL
COULD DROP TO AS LOW AS 4000 FEET NEAR THE UTAH BORDER ON SUNDAY.
RAIN FALL AMOUNTS COULD TOTAL AROUND 2 INCHES FOR THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS WITH OVER TWO FEET OF SNOW POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHEST
ELEVATIONS BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE MIDDLE ELEVATIONS COULD SEE
MODERATE RAIN FALLING ON FROZEN OR SNOW COVERED GROUND. RESIDENTS
AND VISITORS TO NORTHERN ARIZONA SHOULD REMAIN INFORMED OF THE
DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE WEATHER.

Already signs of a BAD storm moving in!

As most of you know, I watch nature for signs of season changes, changes in the weather etc. WELL...I've noticed just this afternoon the birds (sparrows, Blue Jays, Black Birds, Finches etc) are in a FEEDING FRENZY!! It may be nothing but I cannot remember the birds ever feeding like this! COuld it BE?

We got hit by a storm, but it almost completely missed us. 20 miles to the east and at the same elevation Hayden got slammed and the airport has been closed. Only 10 miles west they also got slammed and several people in the small residential area got stranded and couldn't get out. I-70, Highway 40, and other highways are also closed.

We got a whopping 1 inch of snow at our house and in town as well. Weird. It just missed this area but everywhere around us got slammed. I guess you never know what a storm is going to do.

Scott...that is indeed weird but then again, that's the weather in the West ain't it?

Now to the systems at hand....NWS FLAG has moved the systems up to Weds now and continuing THROUGH Weds of NEXT WEEK This could very well be a repeat of 1966/67 ALL over again...6 FEET of snow fell in a weeks period, stranding the WHOLE entire mountain for WEEKS!

.DISCUSSION...AREAS OF UPPER LEVEL CLOUDINESS ARE SPREADING ACROSS NORTHERN ARIZONA AT THIS TIME. PERSISTENT NORTHEASTERLY FLOW HAS ONCE AGAIN MADE FOR A VERY BRISK DAY ACROSS MUCH OF THE NORTHLAND...THOUGH MAXIMUM TEMPS TOMORROW AFTERNOON SHOULD RISE A FEW DEGREES OVER TODAY`S VALUES. A WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE ALONG THE BAJA COAST WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE EAST OVER THE NEXT 24 HRS...WITH INCREASING CLOUDINESS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR HIGHER TERRAIN SHOWERS WEDNESDAY. WINDS TOMORROW SHOULD SHIFT FROM THEIR CURRENT NORTHEASTERLY ORIENTATION...BECOMING MORE SOUTHERLY IN THE LOWER LEVELS. GREATER WEATHER SCENARIO OF IMPORTANCE LOOKS TO BE SHAPING UP FOR THIS WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. A BROAD AND COLD WEST COAST TROUGH IS FORECAST TO FORM LATE THIS WEEK. IN ADVANCE OF THE MAIN SYSTEM...SMALLER SCALE FEATURES WILL ENABLE A CHANCE OF SHOWERS FROM THURSDAY NIGHT ON. MAIN CHANCE FOR SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATING PRECIP WILL NOT BE UNTIL LATE SATURDAY AND EARLY NEXT WEEK...HOWEVER...WHEN THE MAIN STORM SYSTEM MOVES INLAND AND ACROSS THE WESTERN UNITED STATES. THIS SHOULD BE A RATHER COLD STORM...AND SUBSTANTIAL RAIN AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOW AMOUNTS WILL BE POSSIBLE

Sunday afternoon through Monday should be the second period of
significant weather. Forecasts keep low and middle level moisture draped
across northern Arizona. The airmass continues to cool with time Sunday with
rain and snow continuing. Strong upward vertical motion develops
over northern Arizona as the last and strongest wave in the system looks to
cross Arizona Sunday night and Monday and the 500 mb (-30c) cold pool enters
our state. GFS model precipitation forecasts again target the Mogollon Rim and
now the White Mountains with heavy liquid and in turn snowfall amounts.


Those reading this are encouraged to make preparations for this
weekends winter weather. While snow levels and preliminary snowfall
amounts will change as this event nears...our confidence is growing
that this will be a strong winter weather event for the Northland.
