What happened to spring? A midwesterner's rant!

#1 Postby Pebbles » Wed Apr 11, 2007 12:39 pm

Rant on:

Ok was getting all hyped up for spring last week. Lovely hot weather with a couple of days nudging the 80 degree mark. Kids out playing on bikes and adults hitting their garden beds. Neighbors yapping over fences and hikes through the forest preserves. We were having the time of our lives after being couped up all winter long!

Wildflowers are a blooming and the trees are all a misty green with bud... but what's this! High temps suddenly dropped back down into the low 30's, windchills at night in the teens and 20's at the end of last week and now snow... yes my poor little flowers are trying to keep their head up outta the snow!!!

I WANT MY SPRING! My kiddies are on spring break and we are stuck indoors cause it's snowing/raining and it's cold. *GRUMBLE GRUMBLE*

:Rant off

Sorry just had to vent to those I know would understand. :)

It's been cold here in KC too.

We have been in the 40s here for a week. Our highs are normally in the 60s for this time of year. We had some really incredible hard freezes this past weekend. Sat. AM it got down to 18 and Sun AM, it got down to 20. Both smashed the record low by 4 degrees.

Things were really blooming last week. The cold spell has killed the blooms. Our trees have now gone dormant. yesterday, I swear it was more like fall than spring.

This will probably go down as one of the coldest Aprils on record. March 2007 was the third warmest on record.

Our forecast calls for more highs in the 40s thru Sat. There's even a chance of snow Fri. night and Sat. morning. It's not unusual for us to have a little snow in April but the prolong cold weather is.

I am ready for warm weather!
