Wouldn’t look too much into it yet..the energy is coming out form an area of Mexico that’s not sampled as well and lacks data…

Right. It is quite possible the heaviest round of precip occurs Wednesday morning.

Really difficult, if not impossible to pin point exact locations of the QPF fields during these initial rounds until models pick up the embedded disturbances coming out of Mexico. It’s not until the ULL gets closer to the state on Wednesday that the widespread/main event will ramp up QPF across all areas.

Here in Texas Hill Country, Comfort to be exact, between Kerrville and Boerne, about 50 mi NW of San Antonio. 1970 ft elevation. Temp hit 30 briefly today after dipping below freezing around 730 AM. Hovered around 29 most of the day and now at 28. Branches are starting to have ice on them but not heavy, mainly from freezing fog. Roads are fairly clear at this point. NWS Aus?SAT indicate anywhere from 0.25" to 0.75" ice accumulation. That would definitely bring down some branches and probably impair power. Our subdivision is on well water and if we lose power, we lose water. Tub is full. We have a 400 ft elevation gain from wells to homes. Wish they had backup generators onsite but they do not. Could be a long two days but at least not as bad as Feb two years ago when the temp got to 2.8F.

San Angelo has added Winter Storm Warnings to all of their counties. Midland most of their eastern counties. Much of Texas in the thick of it.

Be safe out there! In our part of the start we expect the heaviest precip to occur tomorrow night into Wednesday. If y’all remain at that 28-29 mark, it’s going to be rough out there.

Here in the Austin area, I’m still not convinced this is going to be a bad event for us. In the outlying areas of the county … yes, definitely. But for most of the county we have been holding today around 32-33 degrees. I’ve seen these events so many times over the years and usually when we hit the floor on temps, they don’t budge much further. To really see an ice impact, you’ve got to be in the 30 degree and below range.

Most of the short range models keep us here and even the 18z NAM warms us up a degree or two. The WRF-ARW and RGEM are the only models I’ve seen which drop our temps a few degrees over the next 48 hours.

35W Northbound near UNT Stadium is at a standstill as 2 18 wheelers still remain stuck on the incline after being blocked for 40 minutes. I was able to get good traction up a shoulder. Ice covers the roadways.

It's been diverging calls. Conventional forecasting says likely will, but as we know that has not worked out great so far for temperatures. First it was cold air damming that foiled conventional methods. Now temperature inversion will play a role. Cold pool is stuck and does not want to move. It will warm up to the north of us eventually but where the inversion is greatest (large chunk near and west of I-35) will play havoc with forecasters. In short the warm layer above is also a trap for the cold air in place.

Exactly this. We are 5 degrees below predicted high temps for today in Parker County I think we went from 23 to start the morning to 25 for a high.
