This +PNA ridge may kill all December snow chances

Not much to look forward to before the new year, weather wise. It feels like a spring morning outside right now. Humid and in the 60s the week before Christmas!

The weather should actually be really nice beginning around the middle of this coming week and lasting through next weekend, but the next few days are gonna feel like spring, for sure.

PNA ridge is trending even stronger positive next week, now it looks like almost all the cold air is going to going off to the se of texas, we need to see a transition to a -PNA in january , this + PNA has been an absolute killer for rain chances and cold so far

The east coast almost always gets more exciting weather than us. It has annoyed me for years.

It's mainly about ridge trough placement. Too far east or west isn't good regardless. Timing is tough around here and why our averages of snow aren't high

Wont the position of the HP from the front play an important role on where the cold air goes?

Looking at ensembles, their is clear and good agreement that toward the end of december, that aleutian trough/ pacific jet pattern is going to retract and head towards eastern asia, you can see the return of alaskan ridging on all ensembles around the 30th of the month

Fortunately for me I discount all models more than 7days out. It's a nice today, but it's not lasting long, back to rain and colder weather heading into Tuesday.

Golfisnteasy7575 -EPO is starting to comeback on both ensembles, the main talk this winter that ive been noticing is the - EPO is going to be a more persistent factor ( it comes back more often and quicker following a warm up) the talk has been is the end of december and going into january we will be transitioning to a -EPO/ + TNH type pattern, i dont know much about the TNH, but i do hope thats a good teleconmection for cold down here

That good news. I believe it will be later before it happens than beginning of January imo

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
What i do know about the TNH is a positive phase is associated with cold in the western and central US, which is what the setup is looking like for january, combine that with a -EPO and a potential SSWE late next week or following week, and january could be wild, POW Ponder talked today about January potentially getting really cold across most of the US

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
The GFS has a ULL develop out of Mexico that brings a system Wednesday night into Thursday along with near-freezing temps at several levels. NAM isn’t in range but it has essentially the same setup, possibly something to watch?

Summer's for hibernation, Winter’s my vacation
Don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?
All observations I post are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

What was that move 12z EPS? A Super Pacific Blowtorch that is so bad that Alaska torches along with the rest of North America?
