My thoughts for the system in the OH Valley/ Eastcoast!

#1 Postby Guest » Sat Dec 13, 2003 9:20 am

Well from watching the models do thier thing and after some answers that i got from Newxgirl and Don and as well from watching what our storm is doing now out in the plains i have a better idea of what is to come.

OH valley. The precip is nudging closer and should over take the area today into this evening with primarly rain from se KY on south and a mixed bag of precip from there north to the OH River and from there north it should be all snow at Start.

My thinking as well as alot of others is that the snow will really pick up later tonight in KY/ Southern/Central Indiana and on over into Ohio but as we head towards dawn the precip should begin to changeover in southern Ohio from about Wilmington, OH on south and east over into WV while to the north the snows should continue into sunday afternoon ending in the western areas and perhaps ending by Sunday night for eastern areas.

With that said the heaviest snows should fall from about Columbus, OH and to the east with some places getting perhaps close to a foot in eastern OH. Columbus metro area itself im going with 4 - 8 inches with the highest totals to the east of i71 and less as you head out toward Dayton where they may get about 2-4 inches of snow and the same goes over into Indiana and nw Ohio as well a few areas could see as much as 5 inches out this way. The tricky areas will be along the OH river where the expected changover will limit amounts of snow which mainly applies to areas east of Cincy who themselves could pick up 2 - 6 inches of snow.......even here i do stress the precip could mix which is why im going with 3 - 7 inches of snow.

Now with the main show for the eastcoast from the Carolinas on north into the NE.

Starting with the Carolinas into VA.......Here thier should be ample amount of cold air (CAD) Established as the precip moves in later tonight and in most cases it should be in the form of snow with perhaps some sleet and freezing rain mixed in down in the upstate of SC and even ne GA mts perhaps. Then as we head into the daylight hours on Sunday the precip should begin to change to a mixture Sleet and freezing rain and begin to accumulate rapidly as the precip should become heavier during the day and could cause some big problems from southern VA on south however by late in the day the precip should become all rain in most areas except perhaps in some of the normally colder valley locations. Most of the frozen precip should stay west of i95 in VA from Richmond on south. Richmond on north to the DC area and from the Bay on west will start out as heavy snow and then make the changover to sleet and freezing rain and then all rain especially south and east of DC. North and west could stay all frozen thru the whole event with big time icing concerns and even some decent amounts of snow as you head out towards Fredrick, MD and Dulles on west in VA. Snowfall amounts should range from 3 inches in the eastern burbs of DC to as much as 8 inches in the western burbs. You can basicaly follow this line right up i95 to Boston.

The heaviest snows should fall in central PA up into NY and the rest of the interior of the NE and most of Maine perhaps.........Could be some mixing or even a brief changover along the Maine coast. Someone could see as much as 2+ feet of snow when all is said and done..............The coastal areas of NJ/DE/MD should see a few inches of snow before a change over to rain ith lots of winds and perhaps coastal flooding.........Same applies to LI and the Cape cod area of Mass to just south of Boston........

I will update the maps in a short while to outline everything for everyone...........
