Heavy Snow to Diminish in Great Lakes
3 PM EST, January 27, 2004

Snow has been heavy on Tuesday
across the Upper Great Lakes.
Snow accumulations from this latest
storm have been most impressive
Tuesday afternoon from eastern
Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois into
Michigan and south into Indiana.

Caro, Michigan, which is located in the
eastern Lower Peninsula, picked up a
quick hit of 6 inches of snow in just 6
hours on Tuesday morning into the
early afternoon. Forester, Michigan was
not far behind with 5 inches
accumulating during this same period.

A WeatherBug live camera in Chicago
clearly showed several periods of light
to moderate snow into Tuesday
afternoon. Accumulations there ranged
from 2 to as much as 6 inches in the
northern and western suburbs.

A WeatherBug live camera at St.
Gerard School in Lansing, Michigan
depicted a very snowy scene as well.
Bursts of moderate to heavy snow
reduced visibility to under a quarter of a
mile at times there.

Freezing rain and drizzle mixed in at
times with the snow in Detroit. The
precipitation was expected to turn to all
snow by Tuesday evening. Additional
accumulations of 1 to 2 inches on top of
the 2 inches or so that already fell is
possible.

Improving conditions will be seen by
Wednesday throughout the Great
Lakes region as the winter storm moves
well east of the area.
