Winter Weather Summary

Quiet in the West; Snow and Flurries in the Northeast....


Very quiet, very tranquil weather will be the case in the western states as high pressure dominates. In contrast, this week will bring a very different weather pattern to the eastern part of the country in comparison to last week. The jet stream has taken a big dive into the eastern U.S.; in other words, the East is in a trough position. Clippers, or fast-moving areas of low pressure moving through the trough will produce some snow and flurries. The clipper coming through the Northeast today will leave 1-3 inches in the mountains of eastern West Virginia, western Maryland, and up into the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. One to three inches will accumulate from northern New Jersey and the Poconos of Pennsylvania and north into central New England. Much of the accumulation will be on lawns and car tops, but roads will be slushy and snow covered in places.

Another disturbance, or clipper, diving southeastward will leave 1 to as much as 3 inches of snow tonight from southern Wisconsin to eastern Illinois, central Indiana and into central Kentucky.

It's a cold, wet day down here at the Jersey shore. Definately back in winter mode for now. What a difference from yesterday!
