Since we are all in such a Winter Mood here......

#1 Postby Anonymous » Tue Mar 16, 2004 11:15 pm

........I thought I would give you guys something interesting to read about snow.

Last winter N VA really got plastered with snow. I really got into it and last spring, when I discovered EzBoards, I joined this EzBoard called Woody's Diner and posted this big-time story about a huge snow blizzard there.

You can see it here.....

EDIT: I have removed this link until I am more certain of whether displaying the link is allowed on this board, out of genuine respect for S2K's excellent standards, and until I can consult with the admins here. It's better to be safe than sorry. :)

By the way, the snow is still there........I never quite got through with it LOL.

At the Diner, I am known as K. Ben Ebberly.

I love Blizzards!! I know spring is coming, but I'd rather be way up North in a 5 foot blizzard, shoveling snow with a construction-grade, square-edged shovel!!!

Snow is so interesting!! I like to watch it fall, blow around in the wind and drift!! Then I get to shovel more snow!!!

Winter is my FAVORITE time of year!!

Re: I love Blizzards!! well, you have a point, snow can be fun, but it can also be
life threatening.. i have been in 2 or 3 blizzards before.
i know what it means to be 'snowblind', i fell in a ravine
in oregon about 8 feet deep while exploring the woods there once when the snow was knee deep, and i have camped for days in the snow in a tent when the temperature never got above 20%.. snow is o.k., as long as there is not too much of it & it stays for weeks or months.
only my opinion dont ya know.

NOTE: There are a few characters here in this thread at the EzBoards Diner where I went kind of, well, full-tilt with the snow and all last year LOL. They are unique but harmless.

Admins & Mods here at this board, if you do not want the Diner denizens replies posted here just chime in here and/or send me a PM and I will take immediate corrective action!!

Like anything else, Snow is neither inherently good nor bad, it is how you treat it & respect it that affects your relationship with it!

I'm a native San Diegan, who volunteered for an assignment to Alaska, because I was bored with the 1.25 seasons we get here... and let me tell you, it is a totally different outlook I have now, because of my exposure to REAL weather (or wx, if you're an aviator or military type)! When it comes time to put my roots more firmly in the soil of this planet, I hope it is some place where the snow flies at least a few months out of the year, and I have my loved ones with me to enjoy it as well!

Welcome to The Harper's Inn.

Re:

Like anything else, winter here in northern maine lasts about half the year. maybe a little less. i dunno. parts of it are nice. mostly it's intolerable. in a few days the calendar will claim it's spring. the calendar will be lying, because we currently have more snow than ever.

it isn't so much the snow that bothers me, but the ice. i prefer my ice domesticated, like in the freezer. i don't even like it in captivity, like an ice rink... i mean, if you go to a zoo, you don't get in the cage with the lions, right? when i was a kid i kinda liked sliding across the ice at school during recess. people would line up in front of a good patch to take their turn. but once many years ago i slipped on some ice, at home, and broke my finger and busted my lip, had to get stitches in both. that made me wicked scared of ice, foreverafter. but like a year and a few months ago now, i broke my ankle cuz of the ice, so now i'm just shy of phobic about it.

of course, the almost constant sub-freezing weather is another thing i don't like about winter around here. so i say, all in all, a person would have to suffer a special brand of insanity to choose to live in an area like this. or at least be a masochist of the highest order. personally, i'm only here cuz i have no choice.

but hey, to each his own. i have my own forms of insanity, too.

Snow??? that's the white stuff I see up on the mountain, huh? I've seen that...even been in it a few times, but...never in a blizzard! I think as long as I could stay in by a warm fire and drink sherry, I'd be okay with a blizzard going on OUT THERE>.. (KB, I'm also in San Diego!)

Re: I love Blizzards!! Snow. I REALLY get into it.

I live in northern Virginia, where we are lucky to get 13 inches in a season.

THIS past winter was a BLAST!!!!!

We got so much snow!!! I like to blast Christian music and watch the snow. I also have a serious addiction to weather forums!! Ever wonder why I included weather on MY board? I have been a weather addict for most of my life!

I love to shovel it, pile it up on the North side of objects that block the sun so my snow lasts longer. You have never met a snow addict like me ever in your whole life!! I saved about 750 snow pictures this winter on my computer.

During January we got about nine quarter-inch, half-inch, and three-quarter-inch snow "events"! After lovingly watching all of them, then I went outside and carefully shoveled each snow, I made certain to pile the snow on the north side of this particular bush out front.

Then in February we got SLAMMED by snow!!! We got 7 inches on Feb. 7th, then we got the Big Dawg Blizzard which gave us 12 inches on Feb. 16th!!!!!!! I was SO EXCITED!!!!

I got to shovel so much snow!!! It took me a whole day just to shovel my driveway out!!!! I was so happy, I danced with joy!!! I piled that snow up 4 feet high!!! I spent hours just staring out the window at all my snow!!!

Now it's all melted. It melted on my lawn about March 5th. My snow piles melted on March 13th. I am still keeping track of the snow-plowed piles at the Mall and at this particular commuter lot where there is a Ridge of snow which I dubbed "Jeb Ridge". Jeb Ridge is melting, but still has 3 foot piles left. The Mall still has 2 to 5 foot piles. It ONCE had 15 foot snow mountains!!! Was I Ever happy then!!!!!! I drove there twice a day just to look at them!!!

I love snow. That's all there is to it!!

-K.B.
