Definitely interesting seeing that as another sign from some other stuff I've read today about a pattern change

Well I posted it earlier but our AFD up here mentioned a shift towards more widespread cold and an active pattern around New Years

Merry Christmas, all! I offer you a snowflake to make up for the lack of winter weather. It may be the only snowflake you see over the next couple of weeks. Hope you enjoy it.

Definitely a big front next weekend on the GFS

How far south does it get is the big question

We have yet to get a freeze in Central & Southern Texas, Snow for the Southern Plains, & the MJO is moving very slowly.

We could have the one cold blast this winter, & it will be really big, potentially rivaling this past February's Cold Wave.

Of course it's only Late December & one can sneak in in January, but the one in February could be huge . . .

I’m pretty sure the entirety of Central Texas has recorded below 32F this winter. Most of South Texas hasn’t recorded a freezing temp though. Was there not a freeze like 2 weeks ago?

Austin Camp Mabry has not yet had a freeze.
Austin Bergstrom Airport has had 3 freezes.
San Antonio Airport has not.
Del Rio has not.
New Braunfels Airport has not.
Burnet has.
Hondo has.
Georgetown Lake has.
Llano has.
Taylor has.
Dripping Springs has.
Killeen Airport has.
Temple airport has.

What makes you think this?

We're overdue for Back-to-Back Winters with February Cold Waves (Or Below Normal Temperatures) that happen once in around 20 years.

Here are the Analog years for this: 1935 & 1936, 1954 & 1955, 1977 & 1978, & 1994 & 1995.

Maybe 2021 & 2022?

With the MJO moving slowly, it can allow for certain patterns to sustain itself for an extended period of time, since the MJO is in Phase 7, it's the Arctic Buildup phase, Phases 8-1-2 are the Cold Wave Phases, I'm predicting that the most favorable phases for Cold & Snowy weather will occur between Late January & into February.

We've yet to even have a Trace of snow across Oklahoma & Texas this winter, the first snowfall average is December in Oklahoma City & January in DFW.

End of 6z GFS has a 1066 MB High over Montana.

Either way, Merry Christmas!

Looking at that 06Z 384-hr GFS surface panel, first thing I did was look at the 500mb pattern at 384 hrs. It doesn't "match" the surface map. The upper-air pattern suggests a weaker high moving east across the Great Lakes.

Still hope for you Texas folk. The good news is that the pattern changed. As a CO resident, this pattern is perfect for us skiers. :) I havent had a chance to look at many analogs and come up with my biased opinion, but when i do, i will let you guys know, but winter will always show up at some point. It's possible during the transition out of La nina to El nino, which Ntx described in an earlier post.

Merry Christmas fellas!

1923-24 (2 years)
1928-29 (2 years)
1933-34 (2 years)
1936-37 (2 years)
1939-42 (4 years)
1947-48 (2 years)

1963-70 (8 years)
1978-83 (6 years)
1988-89 (2 years)

You cheated. You had to move north in the mountains to see snow. That’s not the same as seeing it in Sugar Land lol

12Z GFS differs from the 06Z in that the surface pattern near the end matches the upper-air pattern, which does not favor a 1066mb high dropping down the Plains.
