College of DuPage generates meteograms from some but not all of the models.

Need to watch the change in the Pacific ~Jan 10th. The trough over Japan->Aleutian low pattern, as we know, often precursor to cold dumps. -EPO should split the jet if we can get ridging into the GOA and that's prime winter pattern with Atlantic blocking in place. It's going to take time, we're going to likely see some head-fakes the first week of January with back and forth during the transition. The next few days is a prime example, near 90 in some places, then near 20 in the same spots a few days later. But after mid-month we are trending in the right direction for a more sustained cold pattern.

Also cold front Sunday will feel pretty dramatic for some. 80+ during the day, then a few hours definitely by the next morning, later quickly falling to 30s it will be a punch on the internal thermometer.

The 85 today is just rotten. Had to turn on the AC at my parents house in east Texas because it was so humid. Cold front will feel real nice come Sunday.

New euro weeklies continue to trend more favorable in the telconnection department, looks more like a long duration - EPO/ AO on the GEFS extended and euro weeklies around the 12th of january and beyond, this upcoming + EAMT maybe induce a brief mild period in early january, but that looks to be short lived as the blocking pattern becomes more established over NA

Ntxw, do you think we will get there this time or still too early to know? I always want the eps on my side and take my chances from there lol

The ICON has been consistent with these temps fwiw lol. Has it getting down to 19F here Sunday night and 15F Monday. Some models show the core of the surface high settling over NW Texas and Western Oklahoma.

86*F is the official high.

It is also the warmest December day for DFW since 2005 when 89F was recorded on the 3rd.

I think it will work out, it's just a matter of when it will happen. If the jet extension is strong it will take longer because you will have Pacific air to mix in and we would have to wait for the retraction and we're looking at the last week of Jan. But if the STJ can take over then opportunities for winter storms with just enough cold might be viable.

18z GEFS getting that classic horse shoe styled blocking type look to it with a trough out west, could be some really interesting runs in the days ahead!

The GFS is close next weekend here now and a lot colder(at one point some of the forecasts had a sharp warmup again) The main signal on the EPS is still around January 5th-7th

That's what I'm noticing. The pattern just looks a lot more active. I think it's only a matter of time. We don't need super cold Arctic air anyway that will just dry us out

Im ready for some winter weather action, and like ntwx said you don't need alot of cold air but just enough cold air. Deeper cold for snow over ice though

I agree but one thing for sure it definitely isn't going to snow with record highs haha

We gotta get the cold air then we can worry about the precip but I do like how the activity picks up. I mean there hasn't even been any rain here in weeks

The trough has been too far east lately. Maybe a better orientation of cold air, maybe by mid January

I saw someone posted what looks almost like a subtropical jet with tons of moisture coming if that happens yeah I don't think we have to worry up here haha

There's a few GEFS members for NYE all the sudden
