Front supposed to stall west of me until tonight but looks like it is coming on through in a wavy fashion right now.

To be honest, I'm actually surprised that the death and injury toll isn't higher.

It is now being considered the second deadliest tornado in DFW history with the 1957 one being the worst. Heartbreaking. I wonder how many of those who died on the interstate had any idea what they were driving into. :(

Porta we have to hope no one was thrown into the lake from the freeway....I hope they searched...I had a great friend call me last night? Told me he was seeing power flashes but no tornado? I said BRO, that IS the tornado!!!! He got inside to safety. I had no clue he had snuck into Texas from Nashville for the holiday. What a crazy night.

:uarrow:

Yeah many of us have driven on that causeway over by where so many of those amazing (and scary) photos were taken last night of the Rowlett tornado. I cannot imagine the terror those folks felt ... seeing that beast illuminated by power flashes and lightning ... as they drove into it. Sheesh.

Those were about as eerie photos as it can get last night. A beast in the dark.

Ralph everything I have heard the last couple days said it would arrive about 9 to 10 am this morning. That is the main reason we did not go to Church in Tyler this morning as we would be driving 30 miles in the crap. Looks to me like it is right on schedule.

The models gradually have been initiating further south. But they still have the sharp turn out of SW Texas. If you see flakes get us pictures!

Longtime Co Op Observer near Friona (Lubbock WFO) reports 18" of snow. Stated it's the best he could measure due to blowing and drifting.

I wonder if we have any weather balloons going up in SE Texas? I know Houston doesn't do one but sometimes A&M will put up a special one. Yesterday there were signs from the FW special balloon at 18z being record tornado parameters from the FW balloon. I mean it blew away the highest readings in December by a mile.

They need to set a permanent one in Houston. It's ridiculous the closest is Lake Charles and Corpus. Texas is huge and the Houston area is the size of connecticut and 6m+ live down there jesus.

From NWS Lubbock:

Message from Texas DPS...9 am Sunday morning.
(Please share with friends)After the first wave of the winter storm passed, most of the Lubbock and surrounding counties were left with icy roadways and high snow drifts. We have approximately six stranded motorist in Hockley County. Officials are in the process of trying to reach them and give assistance. DPS discourages any travel due to hazardous road conditions. Anyone who becomes stranded could have a long wait as first responders are having difficulty traveling highways due to the blowing snow and snow drifts. Weather reports indicate that we will have another snow storm move through later today making roadway conditions even worse.

hriverajr, I just made your report to NWS Austin/San Antonio. They seem to think you're seeing graupel and not sleet. Nevertheless, I wanted you to know that I let them know.
