SOMEday. We want to do a long trip up to Denali..... We are into photograhpy, and my hubby likes camping, so we have that as a one-day goal...
It will be on the possible stops list. Thanks!
PS: trade you some gulf coast humidity for some biting cold?

nice try! I hate both extremes!!!
The one coming up will be my nemesis (for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time)....I'm positive you'll get some of it soon enough.
I'm ever so much looking forward to seeing your pics! The evil lot

that you are hanging around with here don't know how to use a camera.

Well, about 10 days ago the temps in Alaska were in the 50's and even 60's from north to south. Now Point Barrow, which was in the 50's is in the 20's with snow. Fairbanks in central Alaska is in the low 30's with snow.
All this to say. Winter is on the way!!!!!
Is the PWC going to issue a pre-winter forecast? Or a winter/winter forecast?

Frame this and keep it on record.

And the PWC still stands by the statement! Of course, it won't take much to beat last year but whose counting.
Now that we've had our first cold front and the westerlies appear to be on the verge of taking control, our sights will turn west and north. Instead of south and east.
There's been a lot of encouraging chatter online here and on other forums about what this winter may bring for us (Texas). I'll be curious to hear if
wxman57's colleague is still bullish on a colder/wetter winter for Texas.

I tried to put it as an image in my sig, but it was too wide and when shrunk down to the appropriate pixel width, it was like reading from outerspace.

Using a sports analogy, is this the equivalent of "bulletin board material?"
I continue to stand by the statement. Winter is coming. Get ready.

That's a bit harsh. I'm all for the media getting showered by a snowplow.

Oksey-doksey folks, I have been scouring google searches for winter weather forecasts and have not come up with very much. Anybody have an unbiased forecast for winter yet?

It's really tough to get any handle on it. It's been an awkward year weather wise and even the Hurricane season forecasts have flopped. Winter has no dominant signal to go by and no agency seems to match any other regarding "early predictions."

I know that Joe Bastardi keeps talking about a cold winter (colder than we've seen in recent years), but he is generally most concerned about the northeast U.S. My coworker, the long-range guy, is saying cold for Texas. However, both Joe Bastardi and my long-range guy are extreme cold-mongerers, meaning they love cold weather. So I expect some bias there.
Personally, I think the 90 degree temps may well continue through the winter across Texas. I have no bias at all.

The hard-working meteorologists at the Portastorm Weather Center are predicting the Number of
Wxman57 Bike Riding Days in the winter of 2013-14 will be less than the winter of 2012-13. We also are predicting the Number of Days
Wxman57 Dislikes His Local Weather Conditions will be more in the winter of 2013-14 than the winter of 2012-13.

That coming from the former (and current?) Snow Miser.
Fortunately, I have enough winter cycling clothing to allow me to ride in even the coldest weather (below 70F). We've had some quite mild winters across Texas for many of the past 25 years. The 80s were rough around here. I suspect this coming winter will be colder than last winter.

Can't always have 90 degree days all the time. I like some cold winters.

The Portastorm Weather Center needs to borrow some of these and blast you with them.

I can take the snow! It's the 30s, 40s and 50s with rain that I really hate.
