Same thing here in Richardson on my weather station. What gives?

It is likely that the warm air from above us is being drawn down as the precipitation intensity increases. This is what occurred in the Jan 2007 event, the icing event was less severe than expected in Dallas due to warm air being drawn down by moderate and heavy precipitation. I don't expect this here (the temperature should drop again), but it might mean a less severe event if the temperatures continue to be around 30F to 32F throughout the night on the Dallas side.

Heavy sleet in Keller - Streets were holding off the freezing rain but the sleet is coming down too hard. Temperatures have come up a degree or two.

I'm starting to get that here too by the airport. It's slushy on the driveway and pilling up in the grass

OK, this is just some speculation for those of us in the Austin area. The progged low tonight by NWS is 32. Many areas along and west of Mopac are at 32 or below 32 now. Our dewpoint is sitting at 26 degrees. Wet-bulb cooling effect once the precip starts to fall here should pull temps down even further ... so I guess what I'm saying is that it wouldn't surprise me if we bottom out at 29 or 30 during the overnight. We shall see.

I know the projected low was mid to upper 20's here in Dallas and everyone is noticing this slight increase in temps.

Now that the heavier precip is entering my area, can I assume these projected lows will verify if the precip continues to increase?

It's definitely raining (not freezing rain) moderately here in Richardson and melting some of the ice on elevated surfaces. Is this going to start a warming trend, or is it going to cool back off and all of this is just going to re-freeze as the night goes on?

Meteogram I made for a friend in McKinney w/ the 0Z GFS

The precipitation at the end of this is interesting. Being midrange, the variances are greater in both temp and precipitation. If it has the precipitation right and the temps wrong, we could be in for another round of wintry weather come next weekend.

EDIT: Whoops, sorry for the tooltip in the middle of it.

Getting some moderate freezing rain here. Seems to still be freezing on contact here, but I didn't stand out there too long. It's cold!

Temp did rise a bit, but it still shows it to be below freezing at my house.

I'm getting somewhat concerned about our chances for anything more than drizzle. While there's clearly a steady stream of moisture coming out of Mexico, it appears to be waning as the evening goes on. Looking at the GOES West Water Vapor Loop, there's plenty more moisture for the subtropical jet to tap into, but I'm not sure it will be a player during this event.

Am I missing something?

Im in Austin, man this cold is miserable. Anywayz, as i was driving there was a bit of a mist flying around. Right now its about 34 where i am and i think the morning will be very interesting here. I dallas, wow, the radar does not look good.

This warming effect you guys are having is very interesting but i guess makes alot of sense. With the warm air coming down, maybe it says there is quite a bit of mixing of the 850 air and the air at the surface. No clue what kind of effect this would have on the precip though, i imagine it wont have any effect on the p-type at all but this is very interesting.

Will report from Austin in the am if PWC doesnt beat me to it. I have to be up in the am with the jobs report so i will let you guys know.

Temps rose again to 39 here.

6PM: 35
7-8PM: 36
9PM: 37
10M: 38
11PM: 39

Lows are forecasted to be 33, but I don't know if we'll get that.

I'm surprised that a winter storm is currently ongoing across north Texas and no one has posted about it for over half an hour.
John Basham just posted that Oncor is reporting over 17,000 people without power across Dallas/Fort Worth as of midnight.
