sooner101, I have the same thing in plano. Bands of moderate sleet and rain freezing rain a little earlier. It appears like I'm in a lull, but the radar is showing intenser returns to my southwest, so I expect to have another round of freezing rain and moderate sleet soon.

Just took these here in argyle. Kind of hard to see but everything is covered in sleet and still coming down hard.

And if I'm not mistaking, the worst part is going to be between 2 and 9 AM.

i live just north of I-30 about a half a mile west of the Montgomery exit west of downtown Fort Worth. It's still sleeting here and has been most of the evening.

I'm still awake just south of DFW (Centreport Area)
Side roads are still clear due to lot of moisture on surface melting anything that is failing as sleet.
Grass is covered, so are cars, and so are stairs. Sidewalks are starting to get a little slick.

It's still early though...and my wunderground says 32 currently.
Sleets coming down pretty heavy.

There's thunderstorms developing south west of Waco. The thunderstorms will undoubtedly make the overall line travel more easterly as they try to reach the best moisture.

Steve McCauley
Temperatures have warmed up to 31 to 33 degrees as of midnight in many locations in the Metroplex as heavy rain and sleet have pulled down warmer air from aloft. This is only temporary, however, since colder air will filter back into the area on gusty north winds. Temperatures will fall into the 20s for the morning commute.

The sleet and freezing rain should clear the Metroplex by 9 or 10 AM with temperatures holding in the 20s all day and then plunging into the teens for Saturday morning. Single digit temps are on tap for the Red River Counties and getting close to zero to the northwest between Wichita Falls and Childress ! This will freeze solid any leftover moisture.

The system moving back in over the weekend will be starved for moisture so only light freezing rain and/or sleet will redevelop with the best chances acorss the eastern half of north Texas.

https://twitter.com/TxStormChasers TxStormChasers are doing a good job reporting the widespread power outages for dfw metro, esp in northern dallas/tarrant counties. Also Plano, Wylie & Allen reporting outages

EDIT: 55 thousand+ without power in dfw hhttp://stormcenter.oncor.com/default.html

Reports of power flashes, trees down, streets completely iced over already.. Mainly north of I-20

Quick update before I try to get a few hours of sleep (maybe)

Rain is coming down harder here and the temp did get up to 33 a short time ago. However, it looks like it dropped back down a degree, so it might be all downhill from here.

We'll see...

I just want to report that it appears where I am in Plano has gone to all sleet for the moment. And while I was out there it was moderate/heavy in intensity.

Now John Basham posted that Oncor is reporting over 40,000 people without power across the Dallas/Fort Worth metro as of 1am.

I expect that number to keep rising...its really coming down now.
when the temp dropped 2-3 degrees back down to firmly below freezing (sitting at 30.5 now in my area)
it took off quickly. all the water is now gone and turned into a near solid slush on the sidewalks, roads, driveways. It's a good 1/4" already of slush in less than 30 minutes I would guess.

It appears the temps are dropping again & dropping fast.. 26 at Alliance, dropped 4 in one hour in Denton to 25, and 21 in Mineral Wells.

EDIT : More development from San Angelo to Wichita Falls.. wow

Number without power is here (click summary) http://stormcenter.oncor.com/default.html

- currently 57,514 and likely rising as branches and power lines begin to sag from accumulated ice :-(
