I think we got a slight chance here in Del Rio for a bit of snow this weekend again :p

I wonder if anyone in northern Texas will see some flurries tomorrow night/Wednesday morning?

Very interesting...

@USTornadoes -- The most violent tornadoes in Dec came in 1957 when there were four (three 4s and one 5). 1953, 1967 and 2015 2nd most with two each.

That is a funky evolution of the 500 mb pattern, on the 12z GFS. I'm sceptical.

Still in the upper 30s here and I am not sure that we make it above 40 unless we get some good breaks in the clouds. Hopefully tomorrow's shortwave can squeeze out a few flakes.

This weekend is starting to look more interesting with an upper low over CA and cold air in place. Models have hinted at this for a while now.

Yeah, I concur! It'll be interesting to see how everything evolves. The 18Z NAM is showing the shortwave really pulling up some moisture Tuesday night--maybe parts of the area will see some flurries.

Ironically it's snowing very lightly in Denton right now. I reported it to the NWS. Nothing showing up on radar here but some returns are beginning to show up north of Waco.

dhweather wrote:Merry Christmas everyone !! (a little late, I was busy with the kids)

This morning feels like tornado weather, from time to time I'm seeing the sun pop out a little, which raises concerns for discrete storms blowing up before the main event tonight.

If the freaking bermuda high wasn't as stout , we'd probably see snow this weekend. I expect just a cold rain.

Hows that for prophetic?

Well, my concerns verified. Terrible, terrible damage in Garland & Rowlett. 8 confirmed deaths, all people in cars. Had you told me a EF-4 would move through Garland in the dark and the loss of life was under 10, I'd say that was luck, divine intervention, whatever you want to call it.

I was going up FM 740 to the Harbor in Rockwall, looked across Lake Ray Hubbard and SAW it smashing Rowlett. That sick feeling, knowing you are seeing a large tornado and you are sure it is an EF3 or worse, and in a densely populated area. What a terrible feeling. Hate any loss of life, but all in all, things could have been dramatically worse.

BRRRR!! Give me my 80s any day over this ice box! It's just pointless cold without any chance of snow.

Looks like a cold/wet New Year's followed by a bit of a warm-up the second week of January. No 80s, though...

Found this amazing pair of photos. One of my coworkers shared some pretty amazing photos at work with me today. Her sister's mother-in-law's home was destroyed by the Rowlett tornado.

Yet somehow, their Christmas Tree came out completely unscathed.

Attack of the cold and snow mongerers. Beware wxman57, We are attempting to open up the Arctic/Siberian flood gates. We will have the very -AO, and potentially severe -EPO with split flow beneath for storms and rumblings of storms...the warmth party is over...

It's happened before in the very strong El Nino of 1965-1966

And who doesn't love seeing January of 1978 hit up on the analog pool twice...throw in 1985 sure why not!
