Classic day for orographic effects.

Sea-Tac received a mere .12 of rain.
Bellevue only .17

And here at our house we had 1.20 inches. North Bend (in town) had about .80 of an inch.

Yeah it seems like half the time when I am heading over to my moms place at Moses Lake, when ever I hit the Northbend, edgewick area if its just light rain, or no rain at all in Bellevue, its (rain or snow) coming down so hard you can barely see anything in those areas. Then as soon as you are east of the summit by a few miles, its sunny. Good old orographic(sp)(sorry I am a horrible speller  ) lifting.

Here is a great example of orographic lifting, I took this pic in the link when I was heading over to Moses lake in Dec of '03. It was partly sunny on I-5, but as soon as I got past LK Sammamish towards Northbend it was raining HARD, then it turned to snow, HEAVY SNOW just past Northbend. This was just 2 miles east of Edgewick on I-90. (Don't worry I was at a standstill when I took this pic, my speedometer will prove it  ) I was one of the last vehicles to make it though that day. The pass was shut down for almost 10hrs after that!!! Took me almost 7hrs to make it to Moses Lake that day!!!

Quite to the contrary actually, unless you are accepting that we may get up to 3-4 inches of snow in some localized locations, and 1-2 inches of widespread snow from about Everett south. This is if everything goes to plan ...

Now here comes the next problem...latest NWS discussion says the surface low will move inland further north, but that brings warmer air to the surface...snow level only down to 1500 feet. These kind of situations are very tricky and everything must come together perfectly to see it unfold. I assume the perfect track would be in the WA/OR border. I still wouldn't be surprised if the Hood Canal picked up a few inches on Sunday morning. What ever does fall Sunday morning will quickly melt...Tuesday afternoon highs are approaching 50 F.

I am exhausted from debate.

We will see what happens.

Actually... now that spring has sprung so nicely I am glad that we are not getting any type of true arctic outbreak. I can handle a couple inches of wet snow that falls in temperatures above freezing. That just makes the landscape even greener as it quickly melts.

It lows in the teens and highs in the 20's or low 30's that would be sad considering how very nice Western Washington looks now as everything come to life. February and March snowfalls tend to be sloppy and quick and the whole event can occur with temperatures above freezing.

The February 16, 2001 event occurred with temperatures ranging from 29-34 F. We received 9 inches of WET snow. That event was perfect because we had a colder airmass drop down from Canada, the onset of precip started at the coldest time of night...around 2am...and the precip ended by about 11am...thus it never turned to rain. But by February 17, the temperature was 47 F with cloudy conditions. I think the snow had completely melted by the evening of the 17th. Does anyone know the exact setup for the February 16, 2001 event? Or does anyone have an old satellite map or anything?

That sounds like a perfect event.

Anthony... I saw the NWS discussion. You are right... southerly flow means rain unless you have a well established arctic air mass and we most certainly do not.

Looking at the latest 00z GFS...it appears the ridge over the PNW is much weaker for next week. So now instead of having 3 or 4 days of nice weather, we have 2 days! 8th and 9th. 10th and 11th features some showers...with a lull for the 12th and 13th. Then back to showers for the 14th. But not to worrie, temps will still be mild as 500MB voricitys will be near 552DM and mid- upper level winds in a somewhat southerly flow.

:P lol...Randy.

Here at 10:51pm we have a temp of 38 with mostly clear skies...or for right now anyway. Looking at Seattle Radar...there`s a light string of showers just starting to enter the North end of Everett area. I might get a few sprinkles from this band as it will or may clip the extreme Northern King county line. Other than that...probably just some cloudyness.
Have good and safe night everyone.:) -- Andy

I should also mention that our high today was 50 with a low of 39. Total precip over the 12hr period is .39". Also had a trace of hail this evening.
