Merry Christmas everyone! As I sit here in the warm and mugginess south of NOLA, I can't help but be a bit envious of you guys in DFW. Enjoy the sneaux and maybe we'll see some still in the shadows on our way back Thursday.

So far not much to talk about here in SE TX. Radar is showing a few showers/storms starting to fire just to our West, but not expecting much out of it. We could still use the rain. JEALOUS of or N TX friends who do look to have at least a partial white Christmas. Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

Stay safe down there and keep at least one eye on the sky! Don't feel too bad, I'm very confident we will have yet another opportunity at snow sometime this winter to make up for it . Bring us back some jambalaya!

If that freezing line would hurry up this could be a major snowfall!

Texas Winter 2012-2013

#1647 Postby BrokenGlassRepublicn » Tue Dec 25, 2012 9:12 am

I am already at .55 rain. Temperature holding around 43, few point up to 41. So this rain complex moving through DFW now, is this the main event? If not, is there risk of the proverbial "scouring the atmosphere of all moisture before the ULL move through"?

Obviously, I'm just a watcher and listener, not even a novice at understanding climatology.

I dont think so, we are most likely to catch snow on the back end of the low, where it is pulling the cold air down from the north. For now it will be rain, but I wouldnt be surprised to see the freezing line march south to the metroplex in a couple hours.

Yeah, wouldn't worry. RAP has some very heavy snowfall rates between 4-8 PM around north texas.

I don't know how to post a loop on here... But on the regional radar you can almost see the system pulling the heavier precipitation to the north and west. It almost looks like it is just now starting to fill in on the northern side of the low now too...

Indeed it does! :)
Oh yeah, and the freezing line is slowly marching southward. It's just south of the Arbuckle Mountains right now.

Merry Christmas everyone. Hope everyone has a joyous day.

I heard a thundering sound on the roof and thought it was Santa's Raindeer landing only to realize....it was REAL thunder! :rain: Checked the guage this morning and see an inch of water in it so far and there is much more west of us. In fact, its neat to watch the low clouds moving from east to west, a sure sign of moisture feeding into the low from the east....That is always a good sign here. Radar echoes of some cells seem to be fading from red to yellow as they cross from Dallas to Collin county and seems to verify the decreasing CAPE per the morning discussion. Anyway, the best Christmas present I could possibly have is all this rain! :rain:

How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962......."

Merry Christmas everyone!

44 degrees , .60 inches of rain thus far. The rain is a terrific Christmas present !! :ggreen:

ETA: We did lose electricity for three hours, just got it back a little while ago. Super hard on the kids to open Christmas presents in the dark.

That would not surprise me, high reflectivity band with dynamic column cooling and freeze line nearby. SPS already switched over

Is this sooner than expected? I can't remember when the changeover was expected up there.
