Latest Euro Weeklies look active through early January as well. Chances continue to increase that we will see an extended stretch of cold and wet weather late December into early January.

I'm sorry folks, but I see no reason to get excited about an ice storm that would devastate a large part of the State..... Snow yes, ice .... No!!!!

I would expect the temperatures to look more like what the CMC is showing right now for next Friday’s front compared to the GFS.

Yep, but then they really blow torch the country starting around the 2nd week in January, going to a ++EPO. I look at this as a positive sign as the weeklies have been pretty useless beyond week 2 lately

Definitely. Just look at the previous run from Monday. It showed TX having above normal temps and below normal precip over the next 3 weeks. Big change with today's run.

Ha! That doesn't look cold, to me. When I think of cold (1983, 1989) I think of single-digit temps in Houston with the high <32F for 5 straight days. Highs here only in the mid 20s. That's cold! And I love it cold, by the way.

Have you been hacked?
lol right!!!!I have never in 6 years heard these words lol.I do recall in Feb 2011 while I still lived in Sugarland, before moving to Wyoming him uttering the words this one is gonna hurt.

I think he has been drinking out of the wrong bottle.

I think the severe solution is still on the table. The EPS has continued the drum of strengthening the Alaskan block as time nears. The cold anomalies overwhelms the North American continent after Christmas. The only place that might escape barely is the far southeast coast.

Plenty of members and room for the OP guidance to take the stronger route as better resolution approaches. So as crazy as some runs have been, it's not the upper bound yet. I'd consider preparing for multiple days sub freezing and ice/snow storms, this is the best signal in some years. Definitely since 2013/2014.

The thing to watch for, as I continue to mention , is going to be the massive high pressure domes. That will give you a better inclination of the kind of push of cold than any surface temperature map. Once you start seeing 1055mb+ range you know we are in trouble. If that Alaskan ridge heads more poleward into the arctic circle of Alaska, that's when it becomes less of an excitement and more worry.

New Year’s Eve 1978. SW Dallas County. We had thunderstorms at 20 degrees. Went to bed and were awakened by a big boom around 3 AM. Transformers blowing. All the trees split in half. Icicles hanging to the ground from two stories up. No power for 6 days. It’s exciting the first day or two. But after being stuck in a house with 9 other people and an inability to go outside because of all the power lines in starts to suck really quickly. Ice storms are awful.

Looks like FW has been using some analogs!

Image

Rightfully so. Just about every analog there is in the pattern suggest blue norther. As mentioned in a previous post, look for the deep blue and purple from the CPC right down the middle of the country later next week.
