My thoughts are with everyone up in North Texas. Stay safe. Austin has been lucky to mostly escape the icy conditions but as others have reported I was just looking outside and there is a mist falling. Currently here at my house its 28 degrees.

I guess I wasn't imagining it then. I couldn't even see it, but "felt" it and thought it was just the wind. Can definitely tell we have a good deal more moisture in the air than we did early this morning. This "conversation" almost sounds familiar doesn't it Steve? Deja vu? :froze:

We had some 'sprinkles' up here this morning when those heavier returns were passing by, David. What catches my eye is the amount of moisture excepted Monday night/early Tuesday after the next re enforcing shot of 'colder air passes. Clearly the models have under estimated the strength of the surfaces temps. I struggled to make it to a toasty 35F here today.

Yep, we got to a toasty 34.9f at my place today. Can tell there is more moisture in the air than earlier and now have multiple reports out of Austin area of freezing mist falling and glazing some surfaces. Radar returns stretching from the Mexican border NE towards Austin and DFW appear to be starting to fill in and also may have a slightly more East than N component to them. Will be keeping tabs on that for hours this evening.
Edit at 8:17pm-a VERY LIGHT mist is falling at my house. It looks like tiny snowflakes fluttering down, but it is 35f so it has to be mist.
Best advice for anyone in TX tonight? STAY HOME!!!

It's not everyday that you see the NWS tell people DO NOT TRAVEL.

...VERY TREACHEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY...

...TRAVEL IS DISCOURAGED...

VERY COLD WEATHER WILL PREVAIL THROUGH TUESDAY. SKIES HAVE BEEN
CLOUDY TODAY AND HIGHS HAVE ONLY BEEN IN THE 20S SO THERE HAS
BEEN LITTLE OR NO IMPROVEMENT ON THE ROADWAYS.

ANY PARTIAL THAWING THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO TRAFFIC TODAY
WILL REFREEZE THIS EVENING. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING
FOR A FEW HOURS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AS SOME SUN BREAKS THROUGH THE
CLOUDS. THIS SHOULD ALLOW FOR A LITTLE MELTING...BUT AFTER SUNSET
TEMPERATURES WILL FALL BACK INTO THE 20S AND ANY LIQUID ON THE
ROADS WILL REFREEZE.

ICY ROADS WILL CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM THROUGH AT LEAST MONDAY
MORNING. MOTORISTS ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED FROM DRIVING. IF YOU
MUST DRIVE ACROSS AREAS WITH ICY ROADS...BE PREPARED. MAKE SURE
THAT YOU HAVE A WINTER STORM SURVIVAL KIT WITH THINGS SUCH AS
BLANKETS...A FLASH LIGHT...AND EXTRA FOOD AND WATER JUST IN CASE
YOU GET STUCK. A SHOVEL AND SOME SAND OR KITTY LITTER MAY HELP IF
YOU GET STRANDED.

Amazing what a little mist can do. Some stuff did have some melting today but now there's a new glaze, insult to injury.

The real problem is now occurring in Central/South/East TX where we came out of the ice storm the other day virtually unscathed, only to be getting freezing drizzle right now. I see it outside right now. I can't see it coating stuff yet, but I know it has to be happening because it's thick & it's 25 degrees outside.

Just stepped out again a second ago, only to see a glaze forming on cars.

Ice coating cars now in College Station. Also reports of I-10 in Flatonia icing as well as the Colorado River Bridge on HWY 71 in Bastrop.

Hey guys I have not read the thread in about five hours, but I am leaving Austin right now and there is a heavy foggy mist and it is freezing. It's freezing to my windshield currently it's 29° and I'm on 71 is not tomorrow is outside of Austin. One of the overpasses that I just passed up looked a bit shiny as the light reflected off of it

Interesting developments down here in south central and southeast Texas tonight. Overrunning has developed in earnest and we're seeing freezing drizzle/mist creating rough travel conditions in places. Heaviest overrunning appears to be happening in southeast Texas but it's coming down here (Austin) too. About an hour ago I had to drive my youngest son to an event in far northwest Austin (Cedar Park) and freezing drizzle/mist was coming down. I imagine things will deteriorate tonight and, once again. we find ourselves in a developing weather situation not anticipated by some.

I see that EWX just expanded the Winter Weather Advisory for the Austin metro area. Good call.

I put together a slideshow of some pics me and my youngest son took on Friday when we walked down to the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard in northern Rockwall County. I hope the slideshow works. It doesn't work on Apple devices since I think it uses Flash.

Be very careful ... don't mean to scare ya, pal, but you're actually heading into some treacherous road conditions. See earlier post. The Hwy 71 bridge in Bastrop over the Colorado has been closed due to icing.

Yeah, I haven't looked at the short term models or current synoptics but I gotta believe the overrunning is a result of coastal troughing in response to the shortwave out to our west. Initially EWX felt the moisture would stay to the east but obviously it's a lot more aggressive than they thought. Some of the models did show this yesterday.
