It's very unlikely, GFS has flakes possible in the south, a dusting here and there well north of the immediate coast. The cold front should sweep through and end the precip before the air is cold enough to support snow. NAM has pretty much nothing except for light snow in central to northern parts of Alabama and Georgia.

Never seen THREE accumulating snows in a single winter before... just incredible if it verifies.

Tonight...A slight chance of rain in the evening...then snow after midnight. Snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches. Lows in the upper 20s. Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

Presidents Day...Snow in the morning. Little or no snow accumulation. Highs in the mid 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80 percent.

Interesting to see how NWS New Orleans and NWS Mobile/Pensacola are handling tonight’s forecast very differently.

NWS New Orleans has issued the following forecast tonight for Orange Grove, MS (30.43 N, 88.46W), just east of Pascagoula, MS:

Tonight: Rain, mainly after midnight. Low around 35. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Meanwhile, NWS Mobile/Pensacola has issued the following forecast tonight for Grand Bay, AL (30.45N, 88.35W)…approximately 6 miles east of Orange Grove…

Tonight: Winter Weather Advisory. Rain likely before 3am, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 36. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tell me about it! I talked to my mom who lives between seminary and collins and she said that was the most she had ever seen. It snowed hard for a few hours here in lucedale but it melted quickly. Officially they say we got three inches but there was never more than an inch on the ground at one time. Maybe we'll have another shot before this winter is over. The NWS in Mobile has us under a winter weather advisory from after midnight tonight til 9am tomorrow but I'll be suprised if we actually see anything.

Latest from Tim Coleman on the 33/40 blog:

http://www.alabamawx.com/?p=26758

A vigorous upper-level disturbance, now near KC, is moving toward Alabama, and will arrive late tonight and tomorrow morning. It will bring another round of snow, and more cold air.

It is already producing some rain and snow in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and as it gets into the more humid atmosphere in the SE US, precipitation should increase. It should start out as rain, in NW Alabama this evening, and in BHM by midnight, then changeover to snow quickly. The system is bringing cold air from the north, and snow melting aloft initially will cool the atmosphere, and so will evaporation of that rain. The snow could become heavy between 3 am and 7 am, and 1-3″ is expected, with some places, especially higher elevations in NE Alabama, getting more. Specific snow amounts in BHM from each model:

Canadian: 2″
European: 1.5″
NAM: 2″
GFS: 3″

This is different than the last system with a Gulf low. This one will produce snow associated with lifting ahead of the spin in the atmosphere (see bottom of http://www.alabamawx.com/?p=26640).

The warm surface temperatures initially will cause the snow to melt, but as more snow falls, we do expect accumulations and travel problems tomorrow morning.

First off noticed how quiet the board is today even with the chance of another deep south snow. We are now under a WWA for up to an inch of snow in and around Baton Rouge. Personally don't think much will happen especially since with last weeks event we were forecast to get up to 3 inches and maybe got half an inch at best that lasted for two hours instead of half the night and first half of the morning.
For the history buffs, has there ever been a time where south LA received snow 3 times within three months? BTW our high today at my house was 61, it is now 60 and the low tonight is forecast at 34. This is just insane.

We had about 5 inches of snow at my house (about 4 miles north of Seminary.)

Only saying less than half an inch possible here. Guess we'll have to see how that goes. Personally, I like the snow, but I'm ready for a major warm-up :D

NWS Slidell now expecting rain to sleet Monday morning here along the MGC. Not holding my breath as Friday's event only produced a scattered flake or two at the beach......MGC

CYCLONE MIKE wrote:First off noticed how quiet the board is today even with the chance of another deep south snow.

The NWS site has a good page on the history of snow in south Louisiana. It snowed three times in 1973.

01/11/73, 0.5 in
01/12/73, 0.1 in
02/09/73, 1.8 in
There was another trace event the previous winter 01/06/72 and the next winter 12/20/73

The next measurable snowfall in Baton Rouge after the 1972-73 winter was in 1988.
