So now it's back to model watching. Still have the rest of January and some of Feburary before our chances start going way down. Hopefully there isn't too much ice overnight

Also didn't notice it but the GFS 18z came in a lot colder for late next weekend into that coming week. Interesting.

My confidence on the GFS took a big hit the past few days. I know it was a difficult storm to forecast but ever since early winter with a good call on no snow, that model has kind of went down hill...it did well predicting this storm beyond 200 hours though.

Yes, where did the record high pressure go???
I really think the GFS predicts an ice age every year no matter what.

Most models still do have a 1050-1060 high in Canada. Only difference now is they don't bring it down due to the storm crashing into the NW bringing in a Pacific air (hello La Nada!). Euro is brutal up in Canada this week and next, it's warmer in Siberia than Canada lol.

Well as Ntxw said they're still showing a pretty strong high but a storm is cold-blocking us. Had the first wave of arctic air coming in this week and the coldest might just not get here.

Okay, does anyone know if the freezing rain and drizzle they were talking about is going to add to the ice on the roads or not? Does anyone know anything about it or whats going to happen?

Just what the NWS has been saying. Latest from them

THE SNOW HAS ENDED ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA...BUT FREEZING
DRIZZLE IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT. WITH TEMPERATURES
IN THE MIDDLE 20S...FURTHER ICING OF AREA ROADWAYS IS EXPECTED AS
THE DRIZZLE FREEZES ON CONTACT. CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE AFTER
9 AM CST.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF WINTER
PRECIPITATION MAY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR
SLIPPERY ROADS AND PLAN ON SOME TRAVEL DELAYS.

It's 32 right now in Lewisville and most of the surrounding area. It's only going to get colder so any drizzle is going to add to what is currently starting to freeze.

Now that we are in a semi-lull period right now I had a non-winter question to ask. Since this is been kind of an unusual la nina winter, what does it hold for the severe weather season

By no means am I a expert, but last winter everyone thought we would have a crazy spring due to El Nino, and we had next to nothing severe weather wise, at least where I am at. Perhaps a pro met will chime in.

GFS ensemble runs, runs with different biases using the same initializing data, show a storm. Usually much more accurate if you're trending.

Are you referring to midweek, or late next week into the weekend?
